아름다움과 도덕성은 어떤 관계가 있을까? 사실상 아무런 관련도 없을 것 같은 아름다움과 도덕성은 칸트에 오면 유비적인 방식으로 결합되어 우리에게 ‘도덕성의 상징으로서의 미’로 제시된다. 여기에는 우리가 미처 생각하지 못했던 인간 내면의 독창적인 형식과 판정의 원리가 숨겨져 있다. 그 형식과 원리에 따라 인간은 이 자연을 한낱 기계적 방식으로 고찰하지 않고 기예로서의 미적 자연으로까지 마음의 너비를 확장하고, 이에 멈춤 없이 자신의 감정을 이념 및 가치와 결합하려 애쓴다. 이 글이 바라는 바는, 아름다움을 느끼는 인간 내면의 순수한 감정에서 어떻게 도덕성의 이념으로까지 확장해 나가는지, 그리고 이를 통해 칸트가 무엇을 말하려 하는지를 알아보는 일이다.
What is the relationship between the beautiful and morality? According to Kant, two disparate concepts, the beautiful and morality can be joined up in way of analogy. And they can be represented as “Schönheit als Symbol der Sittlichkeit”. There are the original form of the human mind and principle of judgment in Kant’s ideas of these. Based on these form and principle, Humans do not explore nature in a mechanical way, but in aesthetic nature as work of art, trying to combine aesthetic feelings with morality. So, I research the relationship between pure emotion as the beautiful and morality within human being, and attempt to present the beautiful as the symbol of the morally good.
