본 연구에서는 상담자와 내담자의 정서지능이 작업동맹을 매개로 상담성과에 영향을 미치는 인과적 구조모형을 설정하고, 상담자와 내담자 간 상호작용을 규명하기 위하여 자기-상대방상호의존 모형(Actor-Partner Interdependence Model: APIM)을 통해 자료를 분석하였다. 분석을위한 자료는 404쌍의 상담자와 내담자를 통해 수집되었다. 모형분석 과정에서 정서지능에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 상담자와 내담자의 나이, 성별은 통제하였다. 분석 결과, 정서지능과 상담성과의 관계모형에서는 상담자와 내담자의 자기효과와 상담자 정서지능의 상대방효과가 유의미하였으며, 정서지능과 작업동맹의 관계모형 역시 상담자와 내담자의 자기효과와 상담자 정서지능의 상대방효과가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 작업동맹과 상담성과의 관계모형에서는 상담자와내담자의 자기효과와 상대방효과 모두 통계적으로 유의미하였다. 또한 작업동맹이 정서지능과상담성과 간 관계를 매개하는 부분매개모형이 자료에 적합한 것으로 나타났다. Sobel test를 통해 작업동맹의 매개효과 및 정서지능과 작업동맹의 자기효과와 상대방효과를 확인한 결과, 상담자와 내담자 모두 정서지능이 작업동맹을 매개로 상담성과에 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 자기효과가 유의미하였다. 또한 상담자의 정서지능과 작업동맹은 내담자의 상담성과에도 영향을 미치는 상대방효과가 있었으며, 따라서 내담자가 상담자보다 상대방으로부터 더 많은 영향을 받는다는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 상담에서의 시사점과 제한점을 논하였다.
This study examined the influence of counselor’s and client’s emotional intelligence and working alliance on counseling outcomes, and investigated the actor and partner effects of emotional intelligence and working alliance on counseling outcomes. The self-report survey data of 404 pairs of counselors and their clients were analyzed using structural equation analysis. The result were as follows: First, for both counselors and clients emotional intelligence had positive actor effects on counseling outcomes, and emotional intelligence of counselors had positive partner effect on counseling outcomes of clients. Second, emotional intelligence had positive actor effects on working alliance for both counselors and clients, and emotional intelligence of counselors had positive partner effect on working alliance of clients. Third, both actor and partner effects of working alliance on counseling outcomes were significant. Forth, when a mediation model was considered, the relationship between emotional intelligence and counseling outcomes was partially mediated by working alliance for both counselors and clients. Interestingly, it was found that emotional intelligence and working alliance of counselors had partner effects on counseling outcomes of clients. Finally, implications for counseling practice were discussed.
