본 연구에서는 박지원(1985)에 의해 개발되고 다양한 분야에서 사용되는 간접적으로 지각한 사회적 지지 척도 25문항을 이용하여 8문항 단축형(Perceived Social Support through Others Scale-8; PSO-8)을 개발하였다. 박지원(1985)은 간접적으로 지각한 사회적 지지를 정서적, 정보적, 물질적, 평가적 지지 행위로 구성된 개념으로 정의 내리고 이를 측정하기 위한 자기 보고식척도를 개발하였다. 개발 이후 사회적 지지 척도는 간호학, 심리학, 사회복지학, 교육학 등 다양한 분야에서 활발하게 사용되어왔으며 신뢰롭고 타당한 도구로 평가받고 있다. 다만 기존의25문항은 상담이나 임상의 실제에서는 사용하기가 어렵고, 연구 장면에서 사용할 때도 긴 척도는 참여자들의 응답률과 정확도를 낮추기 때문에 단축형 척도의 필요성을 느꼈다. 따라서 본연구에서는 라쉬(Rasch) 모형을 사용하여 단축형 척도를 개발하였다. 또한 평정 척도 분석 결과5점 리커트 척도가 단축형에 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 개발된 단축형 사회적 지지척도를 이용하여 심리학자들이 학술연구나 임상 및 상담의 실제에서 개인이 지각한 사회적 지지의 형태와 강도를 신속히 측정 및 파악할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
Park(1985) defined social support as a multidimensional construct consisting of emotional, information, instrumental, and appraisal aspects and developed a self-report scale. Since its development, the scale has been widely adopted in various disciplines, including nursing, psychology, and education. However, due to the length of the scale, its use has been limited. Thus, in the present study, we developed an 8-item, short version (Perceived Social Support through Others Scale-8; PSO-8) using Rasch analysis. Data was collected from 350 college students, and Rasch analysis was conducted. Based on the result, 8 items were selected to be included in the short form, and five-point Likert scale was selected as the appropriate rating scale. The implications and limitations of the study are discussed.
