이 논문은 지금은 사라져버린 아이들의 운동경기이자 놀이였던 찜뿌 혹은 권구(拳球)의 역사를 복원해본 것이다. 찜뿌라는 경기는 1920년대 초에 스폰 지공 같은 연식공을 이용해서 주먹으로 하는 간이야구로 시작되었다. 이것이 확산되면서 지역 단위를 넘어 전국 단위의 대회가 열리기 시작하였다. 언론 에서 이를 “권구”라는 한자어를 고안해서 대회를 개최하였다. 찜뿌라는 용어 는 타격하다’는 의미의 영어 'tip'을 일본인들이 “チンプ!” 혹은 “チップ!”라 고 발음한 것에서 유래한 것으로 추정된다. 이것이 각 지역으로 퍼지면서 “찜뽕” “찐뽕” “짬뽕” 등으로 변해간 것이다. 권구는 한국의 소년운동과 함 께 부상한 식민지 조선이 만들어낸 새로운 스포츠였다.
This paper is a restoration of the history of jimpu or Gwongu, a sport and play of children that has now disappeared. The game "Jjimppu" began in the early 1920s with a fist using a sponge ball-like softball. This went beyond the regional unit and the national competition began to take place. The media invented the Chinese word "Kwongu" and held the competition. The term "jjimppu" comes from the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "tip" which means to strike, as "チンプ!" or "チップ!" As it spread to each region, it turned into "jjimppu" "jjimppong" and "jjamppong". Kwongu was a new sport of colonial Chosun that emerged with the Korean youth movement.
