The purpose of this study is to find out whether peer attachment mediates the relationship between self-esteem and social problem-solving ability of middle school students. In order to verify this, the significance of mediating effect was verified by using the simple regression analysis (Enter) method and Sobel-test of the SPSS 18 statistical package program on the analysis data that 388 male and female middle school students responded. The results of the study are as follows: First, the variables of self-esteem, peer attachment, and social problem-solving ability were statistically positively correlated. Second, in the relationship between self-esteem and social problem-solving ability, the partial mediating effect of alienation and peer attachment was statistically significant. This confirms that increasing peer attachment and reducing alienation play an important role in the relationship between self-esteem and social problem-solving ability. Focusing on these results, this study suggested directions for emotional stability of peer relations that help adolescents adapt to personal and social cognitive adaptation, as well as suggestions for follow-up studies.
