언어는 인간이 정체성을 형성하는 도구이자 표현하는 도구이고, 소통 과정에서 서로의 정체성을 인식하는 도구가 된다. 언어 사용의 주체가 언어적 표현․이해․소통 장면에서 지니는 정체성을 ‘언어 정체성’이라 할 수 있다. 언어 정체성은 언어 행위의 출발점으로, 학습자의 주체적인 언어 사용을 추동하는 동력으로 작용한다. 본고는 이 점에 주목하여 언어 정체성의 작용상을 살필 수 있는 자기표현 활동을 구안하고 실행 결과를 분석하였다. 그 결과 학습자의 표현 활동 전반에 언어 정체성이 관여하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 표현 활동 과정에서 언어 정체성을 인식․구현․점검․조정함으로써 비판적 언어 정체성이 함양되는 특성을 발견하였다. 이를 통해 언어 정체성의 개념을 분명히 하고, 국어교육을 통해 비판적 언어 정체성을 함양함으로써 학습자의 총체적인 국어 교과 역량 신장에 기여하는 방향성을 확인할 수 있었다.
Language is a tool for human beings to form and express their identity, and a tool for recognizing each other in the process of communication. The identity of the subject of language-use in the scene of linguistic expression, understanding, and communication can be called a ‘Language Identity’. Language identity is the starting point of language behavior, acting as a driving force behind learners' subjective language use. This paper focused on this point and developed self-expression activities that could examine the effects of language identity and analyzed the results of implementation. As a result, it was confirmed that language identity was involved throughout the learner's expressive activities. In addition, critical linguistic identity was developed by recognizing, implementing, monitoring, and adjusting the language identity in the process of expression activities. Through this, the concept of language identity was clarified, and by cultivating critical linguistic identity through Korean language education, it was possible to confirm the direction of contributing to the overall enhancement of the Korean language curriculum competencies of learners.
