This study was conducted to investigate whether there is a difference between males and females in the degree of perception of the glass ceiling among employees working in hotels and the relationship between work engagement. The questionnaire was distributed to 200 employees working at five-star hotels in Seoul, and all of them were used for data analysis, except for four questionnaires that were answered unfaithfully. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 23.0. As a result of the study, it was found that there was a difference in the degree of perception of the glass ceiling between male and female employees, and a glass ceiling negatively affects hotel employee’s work engagement. Based on the results of this study, theoretical and practical implications and ideas for the following study were presented. One important practical implication is that HR departments need to think carefully about the glass ceiling and take appropriate actions on behalf of female employees.


본 연구는 호텔에서 근무하는 직원들의 유리천장 지각정도가 남녀의 차이가 있는지 그리고 직무열의의 관계를 고찰하기 위해 수행되었다. 설문지는 서울 5성급 호텔에서 근무하는 사원과 주임급 직원 200명에게 배부하였고, 불성실하게 답변된 4개의 설문을 제외하고 모두 데이터분석에 이용하였다. 수집한 자료는 SPSS 23.0으로 분석하였다. 연구결과 남자직원과 여자직원의 유리천장 지각정도에는 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 이는 직무열의에 부정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 이론적, 실무적 시사점 그리고 다음 연구에 대한 아이디어를 제시하였다.
