This study seeks to analyze stylistic shifts in The Vegetarian by HanKang, focusing on translation shifts in the expressions of “Appraisal,” a main theoretical framework of Systemic Functional Grammar, and to see how the variations in style affect the feminist perspective the original author pursues to convey through her work. The analysis showed that frequent stylistic shifts were found in the areas where feminist views were revealed, with the most prominent shift being the reinforcement of intensity by adding maximizer or grammatical intensifier. Also, implicit expressions and euphemism in the original text were often changed into explicit and assertive expressions in its English rendition. Regarding the feminist view of the original work, such stylistic shifts contributed to the strengthening of the male-centered view. This study holds significance in that it looks at the original author's perspective embedded in the work in relation to the stylistic analysis of the work.
