이 논문은 조선시대 여성 기몽시의 세계를 유형과 특징을 중심으로 살펴보고, 그 가운데 최송설당의 작품이 갖는 독자적 가치를 규명한 것이다. 기몽시란 간밤에 꾸었던 꿈의 인상과 의미 등을 기록한 것으로 주로 사대부 남성의 자의식과 집단의식을 대변했다. 하지만 기몽시는 남성의 전유물이 아니고, 여성의 기몽시 역시 조선 중기 이후 20세기 초까지 꾸준히 창작되었다. 따라서 본고는 지금까지 소외되었던 여성 기몽시의 전모를 파악하기 위해 우선 전체 작품을 정리하여 도표화 한 뒤, 세 가지 유형을 나누고 내용을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 첫째는 허난설헌 등의 작품에서 이상 공간을 체험하는 것, 둘째는 김호연재 등의 작품에서 그리운 고향에 있는 가족을 상봉하는 것, 셋째는 19세기 이후의 작품에서 개인적인 감성과 염원을 표출하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이들은 중세에 억압되었던 여성의 속마음을 드러내고 치유하는 역할을 하는 가운데 시간의 흐름에 따라 적극성을 띠는 특징을 보였다. 그 가운데 특히 20세기 최송설당의 작품에서는 보다 복합적이고 소망 충족적인 면모를 보이면서 진일보했던 독자성을 확인할 수 있었다. 여성 기몽시는 남성 기몽시에 비해 소재의 측면에서 제한된 경향이 있는 것이 사실이지만, 반면에 여성들만의 특정 심리와 경험을 중심으로 위안과 치유의 역할을 충실히 이행하는 가운데 기몽시 전반의 존재 의의를 더욱 분명히 할 수 있었다.
This paper aims to examine the types and features of female dream poetry in Joseon Dynasty, then investigate the special characteristics of Choi Songseoldang’s works. Dream poetry is the special genre of verse that focuses on the imagination and meaning of a dream of a previous night, which was used to represent the male literati’s unconsciousness. However, women also began to create dream poetry after the sixteenth century. Therefore, this paper compiles all of the female works chronologically and categorizes them into three types of poetry. The first type concerns the experience of special space in the poetry of Hoe Nanseolheon and other poets. The second type is about the gathering of families in their mother’s house, among the works of Kim Hoyeonjae and others. The third type is meant to show the writer’s personal emotion and aspiration directly. All these reveal the wishes of a woman during the Middle Ages, and they take the function of healing. Over time, female dream poetry took a more active role in releasing suppressed feelings and providing healing. Choi Songseoldang, who compiled an anthology after living an extraordinary life in the early twentieth century, shows us an exceptional type of dream poetry that embodies the fulfillment of multiple wishes. Female dream poetry has taken charge of the relatively limited field compared to that of males, but their special features have demonstrated the significance of existence.
