이 글은 비교적 방대한 5 18 공동체 이론에서 제대로 논의된 바 없는 ‘감정’을중심으로 10일간의 항쟁을 재구성해보려는 시도다. 기본적으로 최정운의 5월의 사회과학 (2012)에서 주장된 ‘절대공동체’ 논의를 중심으로 절대공동체 형성 전과 형성, 그리고 와해 과정까지 광주 시민들의 감정이 어떻게 형성되고 연결되며, 왜 끊어졌는지를 보고자 했다. 절대공동체에서의 감정은 큰 틀에서는 짐승의 수치에서해방된 인간의 존엄을 향한 지극히 ‘합리적 감정’이었다. 이것은 인간과 국가의 의미를 다시 묻게 했고, 호남인의 한(恨)을 호출하면서 극대화되었다. 그러나 이러한합리적 감정들은 항쟁 밖의 이성-비이성 프레임에 의해 비이성적인 것으로 규정되면서 제대로 가치평가를 받지 못한 채 삭제되고 만다. 잊혀졌거나 중요시되지 않았던 5월 광주의 감정에 숨겨진 모습을 통해 기존 논의가 간과하고 있었던 것은 무엇인지 환기시키면서 5 18 공동체 담론의 지평을 확장해보려는 것이 이 글의 목적이다.
This paper is an attem pt to reconstruct the 10-day uprising, focusing on “ em otion ” that has not been properly discussed in the relatively vast M ay 18 com m unity discourse. Basically, I would like to see how Gwangju citizens’ em otions are form ed, connected and connected to the process of form ing an absolute com m unity and the collapse of an absolute com m unity, focusing on the discussion of the “ absolute comm unity ” claim ed in Choi Jung-woon’s Social Science of May (2012). The purpose of this article is to expand the horizon of M ay 18 com m unity discourse, recalling w hat the existing discussions were overlooking through free-m oving and changing em otional dynam ics.
