본 연구는 한국의 성매매 집결지가 도시에서 차지하는 위상을 살펴보고자 하는 연구의 일환으로, 한국에서가장 큰 성매매 집결지 중 하나이자 두 번째로 오래된 성매매 집결지인 숭의동 일대의 옐로우하우스를 대상으로한다. 본 연구는 식민 후기라는 특별한 역사적 맥락 속에서 우리나라의 성매매 집결지를 바라보고, 아감벤의 ‘호모사케르’와 ‘예외상태’ 개념으로 도시 속에 존재하는 예외성을 띠는 공간, 즉 수용소로서 성매매 집결지를 바라봄으로써 성매매 집결지에 대한 보다 복합적인 이해를 도모하고자 한다. 이러한 예외상태를 지속시키는 힘으로서 관련행위자들의 위치와 관계를 살펴보고, 호모 사케르로서 성매매 종사자들이 위치한 상태를 보여주고자 한다.
This study aims to understand the position of red light districts in Korean cities. This study is a case study on one of the biggest and oldest red light district, ‘Yellow House’ near Soongui-dong, Incheon-si. This study examines the history of red light districts in Korea, especially focusing on its post-colonial context, and aims to discover the complex aspects of red light districts, citing Agamben’s concept of ‘Homo Sacer’and ‘state of exception.’ This study will suggest that the state of exception of the prostitutes persists depending on the agents related to red light districts, and show the state of exception of prostitutes as homo saceres.
