이 논문의 목적은 과정신학과 영성의 관계에 주목하여 과정신학이 함의하고 있는 영성을 제시하는 것이다. 과정신학은 영성의 장소로 고난의 자리를 제시하며, 영성의 방법으로 고난당하는 무리와 함께 고통을 느끼고 연대하는 비폭력 저항을 제안한다. 이와 같은 과정신학의 영성은 과정신학의 신론을 심도있게 이해하고 분석함으로써 파악된 것이다. 과정신학에 따르면 신은 피조물과 함께 고통을 느끼며 또한 고난을 제거하기 위해 설득이라는 강제성이 없는 방식으로 영향력을 행사하는 존재이다. 과정철학에 기대어 있는 과정신학은 알프레드 화이트헤드(Alfred N. Whitehead)의 영향으로 인해 그동안 지나치게 이론적이고 사변적인 경향을 띠어 왔는데, 이 논문은 과정신학의 영성을 논함으로써 과정신학이 그리스도인의 하나님 체험에 실질적인 도움을 줄 수 있는 실용적 신학으로 발돋움할 수 있는 토대를 제공하고 있다.
The purpose of this article is to explain the spirituality of process theology by investigating the relationship between process theology and spirituality. For process theology, I argue that the place of spirituality is that of suffering and that the way of spirituality is to suffer, join up, and resist nonviolently with sufferers. The spirituality of process theology is illuminated by looking into the doctrine of God in process theology. Process theology claims that God suffers with suffering actual entities and employs the way of persuasion without coercion to remove sufferings. Relying on Alfred North Whitehead's process philosophy, process theology has been too theoretical and speculative. However, exploring the spirituality of process theology, this article helps process theology progress to a modern theology which can be practically applied.
