신세동 벽화마을은 지속가능한 벽화마을로서의 충분한 가치가 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 신세동 마을에 담벼락에 그려진 주민들의 일상을 담은 작품 가운데 한 점은 얼굴 부분이 갈라져 흉물로 방치돼 있지만 보수가 이루어지지 않고 있다. 또 폐타이어를 활용한 화분은 잡초가 무성한데다가 휴지통으로 전락했다. 여기에 더해 마을 수입창출을 위해 발족한 주민협의체의 활동도 거의 전무한 상태이며 관광객을 위한 새로운 볼거리와 체험 거리를 제공하지 못하고 있다. 따라서 벽화마을 대표 지역을 사례로 선정하여 벽화마을의 지속가능성 요소를 분석해 보고, 이를 통해 신세동 벽화마을의 문제점과 발전방안을 지속가능성 요소인 경제적, 사회적, 환경적 요소로서 세 가지로 나누어 분석하고 문제점을 파악하여 신세동 벽화마을의 활성화 방안을 모색하였다. 본 연구를 통해 신세동 벽화마을이 도시의 이미지는 물론 주민들의 삶을 긍정적으로 변화시키고 미술과 마을이 만나는 단초를 제공해 마을의 환경 개선 효과를 뛰어 넘어 지속가능한 관광 자원으로까지 활용될 수 있기를 기대해본다.
Despite its sufficient value as a sustainable mural village, the mural village in Sinse-dong has been turned into a monster, with mural paintings being torn apart and cracked, and sculptures being reduced to waste bins. In addition, the residents' council, which was launched to generate income from the village, has little activity, and has failed to provide new attractions and experiences for tourists. Therefore, the representative area of the mural village was selected as an example and the elements of mural village sustainability were analyzed. Through this analysis, the problems and development plans of the Mural Village in Sinse-dong were divided into three elements: economic, social, and environmental factors, and the problems were identified to explore ways to revitalize the Mural Village in Sinse-dong. Through this study, we hope that the Mural Village in Sinse-dong will be used as a tourism resource beyond just improving the environment by positively changing the image of the city as well as the lives of the residents and providing a clue for the meeting of art and villages.
