본연구는가장가난한이들을위해헌신한수도자신분으로전세계에영향력을발휘한마더데레사의교육리더십원리들과리더십구축과정을고찰하는데목적이있다. 이를위해우선마더데레사가받은소명을중심으로그녀의삶과사명에대해서고찰하였다. 마더데레사는수도회에입회한지 18년이지난어느날, “가난한이들중에서가장가난한이들에게헌신하라”는‘소명속의소명’을받고, 빈민촌에서소명에 헌신하며 평생을 살았다. 흔들림 없이 확고한 사명에의 팔로워십에 감동 받은 사람들이 하나 둘씩 그녀 곁에 모여들면서그녀의리더십은영향력을발휘하게되었다. 이어서 전통적 리더십과 구분되는 현대 리더십 이론이 관심을 갖는 세 차원, 리더의 내면적·본성적 차원, 리더와 팔로워의 관계성 차원, 리더와 팔로워가 만들어가는 공동체 차원의 원리들을 바탕으로 마더 데레사의 리더십을 자세히 분석하였다. 그 결과 마더 데레사의 리더십에서 현대 리더십이 공통적으로 관심을 갖는 원리들, 즉 리더의 자아정체성, 도덕적 권위, 내재적·도덕적 동기유발, 윤리적 삶의 본보기, 인격적 관계 형성, 가치와 비전의 공유, 공동체 건설, 협력 문화 구축 등을 모두발견할수있었다. 마지막으로 마더 데레사가 리더십을 발휘해 나갔던 과정에 대해 살펴보았다. 마더 데레사가 리더십을 구축했던 과정은세 단계로 구성된다. 시작단계에서는 ‘가치에의 팔로워십 구축’과 ‘윤리적 삶의 본보기’의 두 가지 원리가 확고하게 드러났다. 실현단계에서는 ‘인격적 관계 형성’, ‘도덕적 권위 형성’, ‘가치에의 팔로워십 공유’, ‘협력문화 구축’의 네 가지 원리가 실천되었다. 정착단계에서는‘동기화요인구축’과‘사랑의공동체건설’의두가지원리가확립되었다.


The purpose of this study is to examine the principles of the educational leadership of Mother Teresa, which has exerted influence around the world as a religious dedication to the poorest, and the process of implementing her leadership. For this purpose, first of all, I reviewed life and mission of Mother Teresa who received the vocation from God. One day 18 years after Mother Teresa joined a convent, she received the ‘call within a call’ to “go serve the poorest of the poor,” and lived her whole life in a slum and devoted herself to her calling. As people who were impressed by her unwavering followership to her mission gathered one by one, her leadership became influential. Secondly, the leadership of Mother Teresa is analyzed in detail based on the three dimensions of interest in modern leadership, which is differentiated from traditional leadership, the nature and intrinsic dimensions of a leader, the relationship between a leader and followers, and the community created by a leader and followers. As a result, in Mother Teresa's leadership, the principles that modern leadership are commonly interested in, viz., the leader's self-identity, moral authority, intrinsic and moral motivation, an example of ethical life, personal trusting relationships, sharing of values ​and vision, building a community, and building a culture of collaboration were all found. Finally, we looked at the process of the leadership of Mother Teresa. The process of implementing leadership by Mother Teresa consists of three steps. At the beginning, two principles were clearly revealed: ‘building a followership for values’ and ‘an example of an ethical life.’ In the realization step, four principles were implemented: ‘building personal trusting relationships’, ‘moral authority’, ‘sharing followership for values’, and ‘building a culture of collaboration.’ In the settlement step, two principles were established: ‘building a motivational factor’ and ‘building a community of love.’
