한국의 북방 영토에 대한 연구는 여전히 미답 분야가 상당수 존재한다. 기존 북방 영토 지역의 연구에서 백두산과 간도 연구는 상당한 성과를 거두었다. 다만 대부분의 연구가 다소 주관적 관점에서 진행되어 반복적인 결론이 도출되었는데, 그 원인은 다양한 자료를 사용하지 않은 한계라고 사료된다. 이에 대한 새로운 연구 방안이 일본 외무성의 외교사료관 소장 한국 북방 영토 관련 자료를 이용하는 것이다. 이 자료는 한국 학계에 소개되어 활용되었지만, 전체 내용을 본격적으로 연구 한 사례는 없다. 특히 이 자료의 다양한 보고서와 지도를 본격적으로 정리 및 분석한다면 북방 영토 연구의 새로운 기반이 될 것이다.
There are still many unanswered fields of research on the northern territory of Korea. In the previous study of northern territories, the study of Mt. Baekdu and Gando achieved considerable results. However, most of the studies were conducted from a somewhat subjective point of view, leading to repetitive conclusions, which is considered to be the limitation of not using various data. A new research method for this is to use data related to the northern territory of Korea held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. This material was introduced and utilized by Korean academia, but there is no case of a full-scale study of the entire content. In particular, if the various reports and maps of this data are arranged and analyzed in earnest, it will be a new basis for research on northern territories.
