본 논문은 후설의 현상학과 현상학적 윤리를 의료윤리에 적용하여 분석하고 그로부터 도출되는 의의를 살핀다. 이를 위해 이 글은 잘 알려지지 않은 철학으로서 후설의 현상학과 현상학적 윤리를 소개하고 그의 윤리학이 어떻게 의료윤리에 적용되며, 어떤 의의를 산출하는지를 논한다. 현상학은 의식에 주어지는 객관적 대상과주관적 의식의 만남이라는 상관성에 주목하는 학문이다. 현상학은 객관주의, 자연주의로 대변되는 자연과학적 탐구가 간과하는 측면을 살필 뿐만 아니라, 의식의 주관적 작용만을 강조함으로써 대상의 객관적 이해를 회의하는 심리학주의를 극복한다. 현상학은 의식에 주어지는 대상을 체험 속에서 탐구하는 학문이며 그러한 체험탐구로서 현상학은 대상의 본질을 과학적, 심리적 방식과는 다르게 파악한다. 후설에게는 사랑, 정의, 우정과 같은 윤리적 가치들도 의식의 체험대상이기에 이들에 관한 본질탐구도가능하다. 가치판단의 본질과 그 실천의 방향성을 드러내는 게 후설의 현상학적 윤리학이다. 후설의 현상학적 윤리학은 구체적인 가치 체험의 다양성을 용인하면서도 이를 통해 포착되는 가치규범의 본질을 확보하는 학문이다. 이러한 현상학적 윤리학은질병으로 고통받는 환자를 향한 의사의 태도가 지향해야 할 가치판단과 실천적 규범의 본질을 살필 수 있게 한다. 우리는 질병의 고통에 대한 현상학적 이해가 취약한 환자를 향한 사랑의 실천을 의사에게 요구한다는 점을 확인할 수 있다. 현상학적 윤리는의료윤리가 지향해야 할 본질적 방향성을 고찰하게 한다는 의의를 가진다.
This paper analyzes Husserl’s phenomenology and phenomenological ethics by applying them to medical ethics and examines the significance derived therefrom. To this end, this article introduces Husserl’s phenomenology and phenomenological ethics and discusses how his phenomenological ethics is applied to medical ethics and what significance it produces. Phenomenology is a study that pays attention to the relationship between objective objects given to consciousness and subjective consciousness. Phenomenology not only investigates the aspects missed by the natural science that emphasizes objectivism but also overcomes psychologism that doubts the objective understanding of the real object. Phenomenology is the study of exploring objects given to consciousness in experience, and as such experiential study, phenomenology grasps the essence of objects differently from scientific and psychological methods. For Husserl, ethical values such as love, justice, and friendship are also objects of consciousness, so it is possible to explore the nature of them. Husserl's phenomenological ethics reveals the essence of value judgment and the direction of its practice. Husserl's phenomenological ethics is a discipline that allows for the diversity of concrete value experiences with securing the essence of the value norms. This phenomenological ethics lets us examine the nature of the value judgment and practical norms that the attitude of doctors toward patients suffering from diseases should be directed. We can see that the phenomenological understanding of the suffering of a disease requires doctors to practice love for vulnerable patients. Phenomenological ethics has the significance of allowing us to consider the essential direction that medical ethics should pursue.
