이 논문은 명청교체기에 한반도 서해를 이용하여 명나라에 다녀온 安璥(1564～1640)의 『가해조천록』을 중심으로 서술되었다. 안경은 사행도중 하루도 빠짐없이 기록하여 17세기 해로사행의 실상을 알 수 있게 해준다. 특히 왕복 60일을 해상에서 보냈는데, 이중 30일은 표류한 기간이다. 이 때문에 이 책에는 당시 표류의 정황이 고스란히 드러나 있다. 안경은 왕복 해로에서 총 여섯 번의 제문을 지어 기도를 올렸다. 이러한 기도는 해로사행에서 나타나는 특징이라 할 수 있다. 특히 표류 기간에 알게 된 龍堂王神과 天妃에 대한 경외감을 표출한 것은 험난한 바다를 경험했기에 가능한 일이다. 하지만, 기도에 의한 응답은 기대하기 어렵고 결국 목숨을 천명에 맡긴 채 사신의 임무를 수행할 뿐이었다. 다행히 죽음의 문턱에서 살아왔지만, 그가 겪은 그날의 고통과 두려움은 쉽게 가시지 않았다. 명청교체기라는 특수한 상황에서 이뤄진 해로사행은 이전에 경험하지 못한 극한의 고통과 두려움을 주었다. 그리고 이는 고스란히 조선 사신들이 감내할 수밖에 없었다.
This paper aims to examine the drifting records Gahaejocheonnok(『駕海朝天錄』) by An Gyeong(安璥) who took a round trip from Joseon to Ming China across the West Sea of the Korean peninsula during the Ming-Qing transition period). An Gyeong recorded every single day of the mission trip to reveal the true state of sea-route envoy in the 17th century. In particular, on his 60-day round trip, he spent 30 days drifting at sea. For this reason, this record clearly reveals the circumstances of the drift at that time. In his writing, An Gyeong is found to have written and offered up a total of 6 prayers while drifting at sea during his round trip across the West Sea. This kind of urgent prayers can be characteristic of the record of the sea-route envoy. In particular, it is possible for An Gyeong to express sense of reverence for the Dragon King God(龍堂王神) and the Heavenly Concubine(天妃), only because of his encounter with harsh experiences at sea. Not expecting to get an answer to each prayer of his own from the sea god, but just entrusting his destiny to heaven, An Gyeong(安璥) could not but carry out his own mission as envoy to the end. Fortunately he could save his life on the brink of death, but the pain and fear he had gone through during his drifting at sea did not go away easily. The sea-route envoy, which took place under the special circumstances of the Ming-Qing transition period, caused extreme pain and fear never been experienced before, but Joseon envoys had no choice but to endure it.
