뮤지컬은 노래와 춤이 극의 플롯 전개에 긴밀하게짜 맞추어진 연극으로 노래와 춤은 특정한 상황과일련의 사건을 전개한다. 특히 노래는 등장인물이 지향하는 목표와 액션을 구체적으로 담아내면서 극의중대한 변화를 일으키고 정서 환기와 증폭의 기능을수행한다. 본 논문은 플롯 전개의 기능을 맡는 노래에 초점을 맞추어‘무대 위의 액션과 이야기를 구현하는 노래’를‘액션송’이라는 용어로 정의하고 그 역할과중요성을 부각하고자 한다.‘액션송’은 통합 뮤지컬의 극의 초반에 삽입되는‘캐릭터송’으로 부여받은개인의 욕망이나 행동의 동기가 액션의 중심 사건인갈등을 제공하면서 등장인물이 자신의 목표를 달성하기 위한 투쟁하는 과정을 다룬 노래이다. 즉,‘액션송’은 무대 위의 액션을 가사가 있는 노래로 전달하여 음악과 서사를 유기적으로 결합한 노래를 뜻한다. 또한, 플롯을 앞으로 진전시키는(which move the plot forward) 노래이며 플롯 전개의 재료가 되는 일련의 사건 혹은 장면의 액션(Action)을 담은 노래이다. 본 논문은 우리에게 잘 알려지지 않은‘액션송’ 의 개념을 정리하고 연구의 토대를 마련하기 위한것으로 뮤지컬 <공포의 꽃가게>를 대상으로 대본과음악분석을 통해‘액션송’의 개념과 기능과 효용성을 알아보았다. 그 결과 액션송은 갈등으로 인한 긴장감을 축적하고 증폭시켜 극을 고조하게 만들며 관객의 감정몰입을 유도한다. 동시에 액션송 이후에 다음 장면에 대한 기대감을 상승시키면서 극의 재미와흥미를 배가시키고 단일한 액션을 중심으로 한 극의전개는 극의 내용을 선명하고 뚜렷하게 파악할 수있게 만든다.
Musicals are plays in which songs and dances are closely aligned with the plot development of the play, and songs and dances develop specific situations and a series of events. In particular, songs perform a fuction of causing the significant changes and emotional ventilation and amplification in the play by specificaly capturing the goals and actions the characters are aiming for.This paper focuses on the song that takes on the function of the plot deployment, defines songs that embody actions and stories on stage' as ‘action songs’ and highlights their role and importance.Action Song is not a clearly defined or prescribed term in Musical.However, ‘Action Song’ is a song about how a character's desire or motivation for action, given as a ‘character song’ inserted at the begining of an integrated musical play, provides a conflict that is a central event of action. In other words, ‘action song’ means a song that organicaly combines music and narative by conveying the action on the stage as a song with lyrics. In aditon, it is a song that moves the plot forward and contains a series of events or actions that are the material of the plot. This paper is intended to summarize the concept of‘Action song which is not wel known to us, and to lay the foundation of the stud, learned the concept, function and eficiency by the analyses of script and music of the musical <Litle Shop of Horors>.As a result, action songs acumulate and amplify tension caused by conflicts and induce the audience to immerse in their emotions. At the same time, the action song multiplies fun and interest of the play while the audience's expectation increased for the next scene after the action song and the progresion of the play with single action makes the contents of the drama to be understod clearly.
