본 연구의 목적은 김종삼의 시에 드러난 미의식을 소리와 음악에 관한 인지적 관점에서 고찰하는 데에 있다. 김종삼의 시에서는 소리 이미지가 시각 이미지만큼이나 의미 형성에 긴밀히 관여했다. 특히 김종삼의 소리와 음악의 이미지는 ‘사운드스케이프’의 형세로 구조화되어 있고 이것이 기조음, 신호음, 표식음으로 기능한다. 김종삼의 시에서 기조음은 대체로 묵음의 상태로 제시된다. 묵음의 이미지는 순수나 무결성으로 연결되는 것이 아니라 생명성 상실이라는 의미와 결합한다. 이는 분단과 전쟁을 다루는 시편에서 두드러진다. 김종삼 시의 신호음은 시의 화자가 의식적으로 지각한 소리 이미지로서, 정교한 코드로 구성되어 특정 메시지를 발현하는 기능을 한다. 김종삼 시의 신호음은 크게 세 가지의 양상으로 나타났는데 과거의 기억을 현재로 소환하는 경우, 시인으로서의 책무와 소명을 성찰하는 매개가 되는 경우, 시적 화자의 의식을 전환하는 음향 장치가 되는 경우가 있다. 김종삼의 시에서 표식음은 시인의 의식이 지향하는 소리이면서 공동체의 가치와 질서를 유지하는 데에 필요한 소리이다. 김종삼 시인의 미의식이 지향하는 표식음은 평화의 세계를 구축하는 음악 이미지로 나타난다. 이는 현실로부터 도피하는 환상의 세계가 아니라 지켜야 할 가치를 지닌 대상이라는 점에서 의미를 가진다. 본 연구는 김종삼의 시 세계에 대한 이분법적인 시각을 탈피하여 김종삼이 추구한 음악의 세계가 인간이 추구해야 하는 이상적이고 평화적인 세계임을 강조했다는 점에서 의의를 가질 수 있다. 또한 시 문학 연구에서 학제적 연구 방법을 적극적으로 수용하여 소리와 음악의 이미지에 사운드스케이프의 개념을 도입하였다는 점에서도 의의를 가질 수 있다.
The purpose of this study is to examine the aesthetic consciousness revealed in Kim Jong-sam's poem from a cognitive perspective on sound and music. In Kim Jong-sam's poems, sound images were as closely involved in the formation of meaning as visual images. In particular, Kim Jong-sam's sound and music image are structured in the form of “soundscape”. It is subdivided into ‘keynot sounds’, ‘signals’ and ‘sound marks’. In Kim Jong-sam's poem, ‘keynote sounds’ is generally presented in a silent state. The image of silence does not lead to purity or integrity, but combines with the meaning of loss of life. This stands out in poems expressing division and war. ‘Signals’ in Kim Jong-sam’s poems are images of sounds consciously perceived by the speaker of the poem. It is composed of elaborate codes and functions to express a specific message. The ‘signals’ of Kim Jong-sam's poem is revealed in three aspects. First, awakening memories of the past to the present, second, reflecting on the sense of duty as a poet, and third, a sound system that transforms the consciousness of a poetic speaker. In Kim Jong-sam's poem, ‘sound marks’ are the sounds directed by the poet's consciousness. At the same time, it is the voice necessary to uphold the values and norms of the community. The ‘sound marks’ aimed by the aesthetic consciousness of poet Kim Jong-sam appear as musical images that build a world of peace. This is meaningful in that it is not a fantasy world that escapes from reality, but is an object with values to be kept.
