광복을 맞이한 이 민족이 직면해야 했던 것은 완전한 독립이 아닌 38선으로 가로막힌 분단된 조국이었고, 남한에서는 좌익과 우익의 대립이 고조되고 있었다. 이러한 혼돈스러운 정국 가운데서 미래로 나아 가야 할 방향설정이 필요했다. 따라서 그 당시 국제정세와 국내 및 국가장래에 대한 통찰과 혜안을 갖춘 지도자들의 역할이 중요했다. 아울러 일반국민의 협력이 참으로 필요한 시국이었다. 이러한 혼란과 분쟁의 시기에 “국민의 총의(總意)”가 발현되고 국가 미래의 방향을 제시하며 공감했던 자유로운 소통의 장(場)이 바로 국민대회였다. 국민대회는 국가건설 과정에서 중요한 역할을 했다. 해방정국에서 국민대회는 여러 주제와 형태로 이루어졌고, 그 수많은 국민대회가 주로 서울에서 발화되어 지방으로 확산되었다. 그러나본 연구에서는 이러한 국민대회들 가운데 규모와 역사성을 감안하여‘국민대회준비위원회’와 주요 국민대회 즉, ‘반탁국민대회’, ‘기미독립선언기념국민대회’, ‘독립전취국민대회’를 중심으로 살펴보고자 했다. 이러한 국민대회의 태동과 전개에 있어서 수많은 단체와 개인들이 자발적으로 참여하였다. 그 가운데 기독교의 참여에 대해서 간략하나마사례를 들어보고자 했다. 우리는 지난 역사를 성찰해야 할 것이다. 동시에 선진들의 희생과분투로 이뤄진 대한민국에서 경제발전과 문화창달을 이뤄올 수 있었다는 인식하에, 중요한 가치들을 보존하고 계승 발전해 나가야 할 것이다.
After liberation, what the Korea Peninsular had to face was not comple te independence but a divided nation blocked by the 38th parallel. In Sou th Korea, the confrontation between the left and the right was growing. In the midst of this chaotic political situation, it was necessary to set the direction for the future. Therefore, at that time, the role of leaders with insight into the domestic and international situation and national future was more important than ever. In addition, it was a time when the cooper ation of the general public was really necessary. the National Rally was also the liberal democratic field that led “the nation’s consensus” and tur ned a huge stream of national history. the National Meetings played an very important role in nation building. In political circumstance of the liberation, the national meetings were held in various themes and forms. And a number of national rallies have been ignited mainly in Seoul and spread to the provinces. However, this study did not cover all these national rallies, but tried to focus on the Preparatory Committee for the Korean National Congress and the main national rallies such as the Anti-Trusteeship National meeting, A mass Meeting of A commemoration of the Independence Movement(Sam il da y) and National Meetings for Achieving Independence by Fight. Numero us organizations and individuals voluntarily participated in the formation and development of these national rallies. Among them, I wanted to give examples of the participation of Christianity. We must not only reflect on our past history but also recognize that we were able to achieve economic development and cultural creation on the basis of the sacrifices and struggles of the advanced people. Now we must preserve and develop those important values.
