본고에서는 독일 선교사 안드레아스 에카르트(Andreas Eckardt, 1884~1974, 한국명:옥낙안(玉樂安))의 한국어 학습서 『조선어교제문전(朝鮮語交際文典) Koreanische Konversations- Grammatik mit Lesestücken und Gesprächen』(이하 『문전』) <읽기> 문화 항목을 분석했다. 에카르트는 답사와 관찰을 통해 얻은 한국의 신앙, 의례, 일상 생활 등의 문화 항목을 독일인에게 소개했다. 그가 수록한 문화 항목은 오늘날 민속학의 세부 항목들과 부합하는데, 이는 20세기 초반 평범한 한국인들의 일상성이 담보된 행위 문화라 할 수 있다. 에카르트가 선정한 문화 항목은 의사소통중심 한국어 교육에서 문화 교육의 범주로 삼는 브룩스(Brooks)의 행위 문화(little c) 항목에 부합한다. 브룩스는 행위문화를 기층문화(Hearthstone)라 했는데, 이는 오늘날 우리가 민속이라 부르는 것으로, 당대 평범한 사람들의 매일매일의 일상 문화이다. 에카르트는 평범한 사람들의 일상을 외부자의 시선으로 관찰하여 문화 항목으로 다루었다. 한국 문화 교육을 통해 상호문화적 만남을 지향했던 집필 의지가 반영되었다. 『문전』의 <읽기> 문화 항목은 한국인의 일상성을 반영하면서 상호문화적 이해에 도달할 수 있게 하는 문화 항목 선택에 의미 있는 시각을 제공한다.
This article analyzes the cultural items of reading part in 『조선어교제문전(朝鮮語交際文典) Koreanische Konversations-Grammatik mit Lesestücken und Gesprächen』, which is a Korean language study book authored by German missionary Andreas Eckardt(1884-1974, Korean name: Ok Nak-an). Eckhart introduced to the Germans the Korean cultural items such as Korean beliefs, rituals, and daily life that he gained through his exploration and observation. The cultural items he contained in the book are consistent with the detailed items of folklore today, which can be said to be a culture of behavior representing the everyday lives of ordinary Koreans in the early 20th century. The cultural items selected by Eckart correspond to Brooks' little c category, which is a category of cultural education in communication -oriented Korean language education. Brooks called the culture of conduct as Hearthstone, which we call folk today, and which is the everyday culture of ordinary people of the day. Eckhart observed the everyday life of ordinary Korean people through the eyes of an outsider and treated the results in cultural items. His willingness to write for intercultural encounters through Korean cultural education was reflected in his book. The <Reading> cultural item in his book provides a meaningful perspective on the selection of cultural items that enables people to reach an intercultural understanding while reflecting the daily life of Koreans.
