Webtoons are comics (manhwa) originated in Korea, published on online platforms. This new genre is gaining countless followers, not only inside Korea, but also internationally, due to its easy access and the popularity of K-pop and Korean dramas. Webtoons have originated plenty of movies and dramas, and their growing global impact predicts that they will become another strong pillar of the Korean wave, commonly known as Hallyu. With the present globalization of webtoons, an essential figure is emerging: the webtoon translator. Furthermore, the translation of this genre has a very unique characteristic, which is the relevant role of onomatopoeia. This peculiarity also develops in manga, or any type of comic in general. However, the Korean language not only contains a large number of onomatopoeia, but also a considerable number of mimesis. This article will focus on the study of onomatopoeia and mimesis in Korean webtoons. An explanation of the different translation processes and a corpus of Korean-Spanish onomatopoeia will be provided additionally.
