The study aims to describe the meaning and distributional characteristics of the auxiliary particle ‘(i)ndeul’ by analyzing the realization of ‘(i)ndeul’ in actual language data. The results show that the auxiliary particle ‘(i)ndeul’ has multiple meanings of ‘concessive’ and ‘emphasis’. ‘(i)ndeul’, which is mainly combined with the conjugated forms of adverbs and predicates to indicate the meaning of emphasis, is distinguished from the meaning of ‘concessive’ in that it does not imply a sister member and does not change the meaning of a statement when deleted. The auxiliary particle ‘(i)ndeul’ shows the meaning of ‘concessive’ when combined with a substantive, and shows the meaning of ‘emphasis’ when combined with an adverb or adverbial ending. In addition, as a result of examining the distribution of ‘(i)ndeul’ on the basis of corpus, the auxiliary particle ‘(i)ndeul’ was found not to be constrained in the combination of preceding elements. However, the mood of ‘(i)ndeul’ has some restrictions. ‘(I)ndeul’ is closely related to the modality of predicates that indicates the meaning of negative assertion and supposition.
