이 연구는 무어의 세계생태 분석의 발전 과정을 형성과 성장의 두 국면으로 구분하고, 이 과정을 비판적으로 재구성한다. 첫째 국면은 포스터와 버킷의 생태맑스주의 이론과 월러스틴의 세계체계 분석 간의 교류를 통해 2000년대 초 세계생태분석이 탄생하는 과정이다. 둘째 국면은 2010년대 이 분석이 하나의 독창적인 시각, 분석틀, 방법, 대화로 성장한 과정이다. 이 시기를 통해 세계생태 분석은 초기에 자신에게 중요한 이론적 자원을 제공하였던 두 전통을 비판적으로 성찰하면서그 독창성을 더욱 발전시켰고, 그 성과는 『생명의 그물 속 자본주의』에 집약되었다. 이 책에서 제기한 분석들이 이후 여러논쟁을 주도하고 있다. 오늘날 이 분석이 그동안 고립되어 진행되어 왔던 생태주의와 맑스주의, 가치형태 분석과 세계체계분석, 그리고 노동운동, 여성운동, 생태운동의 자본주의 비판들에 통합적 대화의 장을 마련하고 있다는 점에서 그 앞날은더욱 기대된다.
This study critically reconstitutes the evolution process of the worldecology analysis of Jason W. Moore in two phases. In the first phase of the early 2000s, the world-ecology analysis was born by an intellectual interaction between ecological Marxist theories and the world-systems analysis. In the second phase since the mid-2010s, the analysis has grown up as a distinct perspective, frame, method, and conversation. Reflexively criticizing the earlier theoretical resources through the second phase, Capitalism in the Web of Life has attracted wide attention, and subsequently involved in a series of controversies. It is not yet clear how this perspective further evolves. However, it seems certain that it is possible to construct a broader table for a meaningful conversation not only for a radical critique of the current ecological crisis of capitalism but also for delineating a possible future of capitalism in the web of life on a planetary scale.
