본 글은 일제 식민지 체제와 구시대 봉건적 가부장제 사회에서 주변부사람들이 자립적이고 변혁적 삶을 살도록 선교를 행한 서서평 선교사의 선교 활동을 연구한다. 먼저 이 글은 당시 한국여성들의 주변부적 삶을 분석하고, 그가 섬김의 영성으로 행한 생명살림의 하나님 나라 선교와 선교적 특징을 분석한다. 그리고 서서평의 선교가 오늘날 현대선교 신학에서 어떻게논의되는가를 살핀다. 여기에서 2가지 선교 문건을 분석한다. 현장 실천을강조하는 세계교회협의회(WCC)의 선교문건인 “함께 생명을 향하여” (Together Towards Life)의 주변부 변혁 선교, 그리고 개인 영성적 접근의선교를 강조한 로잔운동 (Lausanne Movement)의 선교 문건인 “케이프타운서약” (The Capetown Commitment)의 그리스도인의 영성 접근적 선교를분석한다.
This article studies the missionary work (1912-1934) of Elisabeth J. Shepping who practiced life-saving missions for the Kingdom of God to Korean peoples at the margins in order to live a self-supporting and transformational life in the Japanese colonial-imperialism and old feudal system in patriarchal society. This article discusses how her missions can be carried out in the peripheral mission field today. To that end this paper analyzes the two mission documents: the mission of the periphery of the “Together Towards Life,” a WCC mission document that emphasizes field transformation, and the life mission of “The Capetown Commitment,” a mission document of the Lausanne Movement that emphasizes the mission of the individual spiritual approach.
