본 논문의 목적은 여성주의 관점을 통해 문화콘텐츠산업 내에서 생산/소비되고 있는 여성영웅성을 분석하고, 그 문제점 및 대안을 모색해 보는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 전 세계적인 문화콘텐츠로서 큰 영향력을 행사하고 있는 디즈니 애니메이션 중 ‘뮬란’과 ‘모아나’를 조셉 캠벨의 영웅서사구조를 기준으로 삼아 분석함으로써 각 작품들 안에 놓여 있는 여성영웅성의 구조, 내용, 그리고 여성주의 관점에서의 한계 등을 밝혀보고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 디즈니 애니메이션 중 여성 영웅을 소재로 하여 여성의 정체성이 가장 잘 드러난 두 작품 ‘뮬란’과 ‘모아나’를 선정하였다. 본 연구는 두 서사구조에서 여성 영웅에게 적용할 수 있는 단계와 기능을 고려하여 기준을 총 9단계로 정리하였다. 9단계 구조에서 인물 간의 갈등과 사건, 그리고 여성 주인공들의 욕망이 어떤 방식으로 드러나는지를 통해서 작품에 내재된 이데올로기를 분석하였다. 제작된 시기가 다른 두 작품의 비교분석을 통해 당대 지향했던 이데올로기와 가치관에 차이점이 존재하고, 현재 디즈니에서 올바른 젠더 정체성을 재현하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 앞으로 현대적 시각에 적합한 새로운 여성 영웅이 등장할 수 있길 기대한다.
The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the female heroes produced/consumed in the cultural contents industry from the perspective of feminism, and to explore the alternatives of problems. For it, this thesis analyzes ‘Mulan’ and ‘Moana’ among Disney animations, which are exerting great influence as global cultural contents, based on Joseph Campbell’s hero narrative structure. And through the result, the structure, content, limitations of female hero character is criticized by feminist aspect. This study selected two films, ‘Mulan’ and ‘Moana’, in which the identity of women is best revealed using female heroes among Disney animations. This study is based on the standards in consideration of the stages and functions applicable to female heroes in narrative structures of myth of Joseph Campbell. It was organized into a total of 9 steps. In the nine-stage structure, the ideology inherent in the work was analyzed through how the conflicts and events between characters and the desires of female protagonists are revealed. Through the comparative analysis of the two works of different production periods, it was found that there existed differences in the ideology and values that were aimed at the time, and that Disney is reproducing the correct gender identity. Therefore, it is hoped that in the future, new female heroes suitable for the modern perspective will emerge.
