이 연구는 외국인 학부생의 교양한국어 수업에서 영화와 인터넷 매체를활용한 복합양식적 교육의 적용 가능성을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 최근 인터넷 기반의 새로운 매체들의 사용이 늘어나면서 복합양식(multimodal) 텍스트에 대한 의존도가 점차 늘어나고 있다. 한국어교육에서도 영화나드라마는 물론 예능 프로그램이나 다양한 동영상까지 미디어가 갖는 새로운 의미구성 방식을 교육에 도입하는 경우가 많다. 이러한 디지털 문식성교육은 현재 디지털 매체들에 익숙한 젊은 유학생들에게 한국어 의사소통 능력 배양을 넘어서 비판적, 분석적 사고력을 배양하는 데에도 필수적이다. 본고에서는 외국인 학부생들을 대상으로 영화 <부당거래>를 활용한말하기 수업을 진행하였다. 이 수업은 학습자가 영화의 한 인물을 변론하는 방식으로, 영화 주제를 통해 현실을 비판적으로 이해하고, 이에 대한자신의 의견을 표명할 수 있었다는 점에서, 비판적이며 동시에 사실적 말하기를 수행할 수 있다. 또한 영화 감상 전과 후에 필요한 자료를 인터넷에서 스스로 찾아 읽고 정보를 구성하며 조직된 영상 매체 정보를 인터넷에공유하는 활동을 통해 공동체 내에서 새로운 정보 창출에 기여함으로써, 복합양식 문식성 교육을 실현할 수 있다. 이처럼, 본고의 사례는 학습자가여러 매체를 동시에 활용하여 찾아낸 정보의 가치를 스스로 판단하고 그안에서 필요한 정보를 확보한 후 새롭게 정보를 구성하는 과정을 통해, 공동체에 새로운 의미구성자로 참여해 보았다는 점에서 복합양식 문식성교육적 의의가 있다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the acceptability of multimodal education utilizing movies and Internet media in Korean language classes for foreign undergraduate students. Recently, the reliance on multimodal text has been increased as the use of new media based on Internet increases. Korean language education also increasingly adopt new forms of semantics from media including movies, dramas, entertainment shows, and various videos. This media literacy education is essential to cultivate critical and analytical thinking ability beyond the ability of Korean language communication to young foreign students familiar with digital media. In this article, I conducted a speech class using the movie <The Unjust> for foreign undergraduates. This class is helpful to speak critically and realistically because learners defend a character in the movie, critically understand the reality through the theme of the movie, and express their opinion on it. In addition, multimodal literacy education can be realized by contributing to the creation of new information within the community through activities of reading the necessary information before and after watching the movie, organizing information, and sharing organized image media information on the Internet. In this way, the case presented in this paper have educational implications in that the learners judge the value of the information found in the media, acquire necessary information in it, and participate in the community as a new meaning constructor through the process of constructing new information.
