본 논문은 플랫폼 경제체제 하에서 배앱을 매개로 음식배달서비스를 제공하고 있는 배달노동자의 노동조건과 이들의 행위에서 나타나는 실천감각을 분석하는 데 초점을 맞추었다. 이를 위해 필자는 참여관찰과 심층면접법을 활용해 피면접자들의 다양한 삶의 모습을 포착하고자 했다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻게 되었다. 첫째, 피면접자들은 대체로 학업을 중단하거나 소홀히 함으로써 일찌감치 노동세계로 진입하게 되는데, 그들에게 가장 효율적인 노동이 배달노동이라는 점이고 오늘날 플랫폼 경제체계는 이러한 위치에 놓인 젊은 청년들을 빠르게 흡수한다는 점이다. 둘째, 이들은 배달노동을 하는 과정에서 복합적인 감정적 경험을 하게 되는데, 여기에는 시간압박 때문에 과속과 난폭운전을 목숨 걸고 해야 한다는 불안감, 사회적인 무시와 천대, 그리고 이들 스스로 무마시키기 위한 둔감함이 동반된다는 점이다. 마지막으로 배달기사들은 플랫폼 노동의 특성을 그대로 보여주었는데, 자율성을 지닌 듯 보이지만 본질적으로는 노동자 스스로 관리·통제하도록 부추기면서 이 과정을 디지털 제어장치로 통제하는 플랫폼자본주의체제의 이윤축적 방식을 드러내고자 했다. 동시에 배달노동자로서의 삶이 자신이 미래를 구체적으로 준비하는 데 기여하기보다는 또래집단과의 유흥이나 자신의 쾌락을 위한 소모적인 소비활동에 집중되어 있다는 점에서 프레카리아트 노동의 일면을 드러내고자 했다.
This article focuses on exploring the working conditions of delivery app workers who delivery food to the consumer and their sense of practice under the platform economic system. To the end, I tried to grasp the various aspects in the interviewees’s lives by using participatory observation and in-depth interview method. The results are as follows. First, interviewees usually enter the labor market early by dropping out school or neglecting their academic life, and delivery labor is the most efficient for them, and platform economic system attracts such young people quickly. Second, they have complex emotional experiences in delivering on motorcycle, which is accompanied by anxiety that overspeed and violent driving should be risked for their lives due to time pressure, social ignorance and insensitivity. Finally, this study suggests that delivery workers showed the characteristics of platform labor as it is, that is to say, the profit accumulation logic of platform capitalism system that controls all the process through digital devices while encouraging workers to manage and control themselves autonomously. At the same time, I tried to reveal the aspect of precariatian labor in that interviewees spend a lot of time on entertainment with peer group or the consumption for his pleasure rather than contributing to projecting his future.
