The International Visitor Survey issued by the Tourism Ministry shows that foreign visitors to Korea experience the lowest level of language communication satisfaction among other categories. Despite this fact, there is little research, dedicated to identifying the underlying issues. Therefore, this study aims to explore reasons why foreign tourists are not satisfied from a language perspective and what areas to improve. To serve this purpose, raw data of the 2019 International Visitor Survey is used and one-way ANCOVA analysis is employed to analyse the mean score differences of language communication satisfaction according to various visitor characteristics. The results show that there are significant mean differences of language communication satisfaction based on visitors’ demographic and travel characteristics. In conclusion, the implications of the findings are discussed to address the existing weaknesses in order to enhance tourists’ language communication satisfaction and the competitiveness of the tourism industry in the long-term.
