팬덤의 저항성이 기술에 기반을 둔 열정과 참여로 주로 설명되면서 주로 긍정적인 팬덤 실천이 연구 및 대중 담론에서 부각되고 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 팬덤의 다양한 행위 양상 중에서 팬덤의 위계 구성 및 경계 짓기 실천의 문화적 의미를 드러내고자 하는 것이다. 팬덤은 열정적 소비를 통해 소비자–팬덤 정체성을 구성하는 한편으로, 아이돌 스타와 함께 ‘같은 것’을 추구한다는 허구적 공동체성을 소비한다. 이때, ‘같은 것’의 가치는 신자유주의 체계 하에서의 성공이라는 의미로 치환되어, 생산성 선망 구조 속에서 아이돌에게 상업적 성공을 위해 개인성을 유예할 것을 요구하고 팬덤 역시 이를 위해 희생한다는 담론을 구성하고 있다. 이는 교환 가치의 틀과 소비자 담론 안에 팬덤의 실천을 한정하는 효과를 갖는다. 이 글은 교환 가치 중심의 소비자-팬덤 담론은 산업의 착취적 구조나 아이돌 감정 노동의 문제 등을 성공이라는 가치 뒤로 유예하게 하는 문제가 있다는 점을 지적하였고, 교환 가치의 문제가 팬덤에게도 동일한 억압으로 작동하고 있음을 보였다. 또한 어머니라는 젠더화된 정체성을 통해 능력주의를 바탕으로 팬덤의 실천이 표상되는 것의 문제를 논의하고 이의 대안이 어떤 방식으로 구성되어야 할지를 논의하였다.
As the resistance of fandom is mainly being explained to be participation based on technology in recent fandom studies, only parts of the aspects of fandom are relatively standing out. This article attempted to reveal the cultural meanings of multi-layered aspects for the hierarchical order composition and boundary-policing of fandom. Fandom construct consumer-fandom identities through passionate consumption and it is a community that makes consumptions of a communal nature, pursuing the ‘same things’ with idol stars. When this happens, the values of having the same things are being substituted as meanings of success under neo-liberalism systems. It was observed that demands are being made for idols to suspend their individuality for commercial success within productivity envy systems and aspects that compose exchange values are appearing through construction of discourse that fandom is also making the same sacrifices. Consumer-fandom discourse focused on such exchange values pointed out that there are problems in which the exploitative structures of industries or problems with the emotional labor of idols are being granted grace behind the value of success, and such dynamics are operating as identical forms of suppression on fandom as well. Also, discussions were made regarding the issue in which fandom is being symbolized based on a meritocracy through the gendered identity of ‘mother’. Discussions were made of how other alternatives should be constructed.
