This study aims to diagnose the current status of grammar teaching and learning for academic purpose learners. To that end, an analysis on grammatical chunks presented in Korean textbooks for academic purposes were conducted. The analysis of Korean textbooks for academic purposes was done in terms of form, genre and function. The result appeared that the proportion of sentence composition, including slots in which certain vocabulary, phrases, and clauses can be inserted in terms of form, was overwhelmingly high, followed by the proportion of commonly used idiomatic expressions. On the other hand, the proportion of grammatical morpheme or composition of morpheme, which were relatively high in the regular Korean language curriculum, was very low. In the distribution of grammatical items by genre, there were five different genres of spoken language: lectures, interviews, presentations, debates, and discussions, while written language was limited to academic reports. In addition, discussions and interviews were limited to specific textbooks, unlike those that had many lectures, presentations, and debates in common in many textbooks.
