본 연구는 후기 비트겐슈타인 철학의 핵심 개념인 ‘문법’의 의미를 규명하고, ‘문법적 탐구’가 어떻게 철학적 방법일 수 있는지 밝히는데 그 목적이 있다. ‘문법’ 개념이 비트겐슈타인 철학의 중요한 개념임에도 불구하고, 그 동안 국내에서는 이에 관한 연구가 별로 없었음이 본 연구의 배경이라 할 수 있다. 연구의 방법은 비트겐슈타인의 중･후기 저술들에서 ‘문법’의 사용을 분석하고 이에 관한 철학자들의 해석을 비교, 검토할 것이다. 이를 토대로 한 본 연구의 내용은 다음과 같다. 먼저 연구자는 ‘문법’은 낱말의 의미와 사용을 결정하는 언어적 규칙과 밀접하게 관련되어 있음을 밝힌다(2장). 그리고 언어의 오용으로 인한 무의미한 철학적 혼동을 피하기 위해 ‘표층 문법’과 ‘심층 문법’의 차이를 부각시키고(3장), 철학적 혼동을 초래하는 주요한 원인인 철학 언어의 숭고화 경향이 무엇인지 고찰한다(4장). 마지막으로 결론에서는 후기 비트겐슈타인의 철학적 방법은 결국 문법적 탐구였음을 주장하며 논의를 마무리한다.
The purpose of this paper is to clarify the meaning of ‘grammar’ which is the core concept in Wittgenstein’s later philosophy, and to examine how ‘grammatical investigation’ can be a philosophical method. Although the concept of ‘grammar’ is an important concept of his philosophy, there have been few studies on it in Korea, which can be said as the background of this paper. The method of this paper is to analyze the use of ‘grammar’ in Wittgenstein’s middle and late writings, and to examine the interpretations of several philosophers on this concept. Based on this, the contents of this paper are as follows. First, it is revealed that ‘grammar’ is closely related to the linguistic rules that determine the meaning and use of words (Chapter 2). And in order to avoid a nonsense of philosophical confusions due to the misunderstanding of language, I will argue that we should pay attention to the difference between ‘surface grammar’ and ‘depth grammar’(Chapter 3), and I consider what is the tendency to sublime philosophical language, which is the main cause of philosophical confusions (Chapter 4). And in conclusion, I argue that the later Wittgenstein’s philosophical method was a grammatical investigation.
