이 연구의 목적은 초등학생 자녀를 미인가 대안학교에 보낸 학부모들의 학교 선택 동기와 그들이 경험한 대안학교 및 대안학교에서의 교육 실천의 의미를 심층적으로 파악하는 데 있다. 이 연구는 심층면담을 통한 질적연구로서, 연구참여자는 경기도 소재의 미인가 기독교 대안학교인 별빛학교와 달빛학교에 자녀를 보내고 있는 학부모 7인이며, 편의표집과 눈덩이표집 방법으로 선정하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구참여자들이 미인가 대안학교를 선택하는 이유는 ‘자녀의 행복 추구’, ‘입시와 성공 문법으로부터의 탈주’, ‘신앙적 가치 추구’, ‘가치를 공유하는 공동체에 소속’이었으며, 둘째, 연구참여자들이 경험한 대안학교는 ‘가치가 삶이 되는 곳’, ‘아이의 다름을 인정받는 곳’, ‘함께 만들어가는 곳’, ‘울타리가 되어주는 곳’이었다. 그리고 셋째, 연구참여자들의 교육 실천은 ‘상생’, ‘버팀’, ‘성장’, 그리고 ‘기대’로 해석될 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 향후 미인가 대안학교를 선택하는 학부모들의 적극적 교육 실천을 인정하고 지원하기 위한 학문적⸱실천적 시사점을 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study is to explore why some parents send their elementary school children to unauthorized alternative schools. We also want to find out the meaning of alternative schools and their educational practice experience. For this purpose, seven parents who are sending their children to Starlight School and Moonlight School, which are unauthorized Christian alternative schools in Gyeonggi-do, were selected as participants. The analysis results are as follows: First, research participants chose an unauthorized alternative school for their children because they wanted to pursue their children's happiness, break away from entrance exams and success grammar, share their Christian values, and join a community that pursues the same faith. Second, alternative schools experienced by participants were ‘Where value becomes life,’ ‘Where children’s differences are recognized,’ ‘A place to get together,’ and ‘A place for protection.’ Third, the study participants' practice of education could be interpreted as 'win-win,' ‘holding out,’ ‘growing,’ and 'struggle for recognition.'
