A Study on the YouTube Mukbang Contents of Korea and Japan: Focusing on controversy over sadism

유튜브의 대표적인 콘텐츠 장르 중 하나인 먹방(MUKBANG)에는 수익창출을 위한 자극적인 콘텐츠 제작의 문제와 결부된 가학성 논란이 지속적으로 제기되어 왔다. 이에 본고에서는 한국과 일본의 유튜브 채널인 <쏘영의 달콤살벌한 먹방>과 <TOMIKKU NET>을 분석대상으로 하여 유튜브 먹방콘텐츠에서의 가학성 논란이 구체적으로 어떤 계통의 음식에서 주로 나타나는지 확인하고, 시청자들이 특별히 가학적이라고 지적하는 행위와 그 문화적 배경을 검토하였다. 아울러 양 채널의 시청자 구성에는 글로벌화 된 것과 내국인 위주라는 큰 차이가 있는 점에 착목하여, 콘텐츠 제작자와 시청자의 국가 간에 따라 가학성 인식에 어떤 차이가 발생하는지를 뉴미디어(new media)의 한일문화비교론적 관점에서 고찰하였다

Controversy over sadism has been consistently raised to Mukbang, which is one of the representative YouTube contents, in relation to the issue of producing provocative contents for the generation of profits. Thus, this study identified the types of food that provoked the controversy over sadism of YouTube Mukbang contents, and reviewed the behaviors that viewers pointed out as particularly sadistic and their cultural backgrounds. Moreover, based on the fact that there is large difference in the composition of viewers between Korean and Japanese YouTube channels <Ssoyoung's Sweet and Brutal Mukbang> and <TOMIKKU NET>, respectively, what difference in awareness of sadism occurred according to the country of the content creators and viewers was discussed from the perspective of cultural comparison between Korea and Japan on new media

ユーチューブの代表的なコンテンツジャンルの一つであるモッパン(MUKBANG)には、収益創出のための刺激的なコンテンツ制作の問題と結びついた加虐性問題が持続的に提起されてきた。本稿では韓国と日本のYouTubeチャンネルである「ソヨンの甘いモッパン」と日本の「TOMIKKU NET」を分析対象とし、YouTubeモッパンコンテンツにおける加虐性の議論が具体的にどの系統の食べ物に現れるのかを確認し、視聴者が特に加虐的だと指摘する行為とその文化的背景を検討した。また、両チャンネルの視聴者構成にはグローバル化と内国人中心という大きな違いがある点に着目し、コンテンツ製作者と視聴者の国によって加虐性に対する認識にどのような違いが生じるのかをニューメディアの日韓文化比較論的観点から考察した。
