이글에서는 창작동화 《녹디생이, 사라진 변기를 찾아라》에 수용된 신화 속인물 양상과 문제점을 살펴보았다. 동화 속의 등장인물은 크게 두 가지 양상으로 형상화되어 있다. 하나는 신화속 등장인물을 그대로 차용하여 재창조한 인물이고, 다른 하나는 신화적 상징 요소를 차용하여 새롭게 창조한 인물이다. 전자의 인물은 문전신 녹디생이, 측간신클리너, 수신(水神) 하백, 용왕이다. 후자의 인물은 영웅 탄생이나 영웅적 인물됨을 드러내는 화소 삽입을 통해 창조된 주인공 고서현(해달)과 해달의 곁을 지키며 조력자 역할을 하는 봉황새 ‘짠’이다. 그리고 신화 인물의 동화 수용에 있어 나타나는 문제점을 측간신을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이 동화에서는 측간신을 인간의 수호신들과 대결하는 악신으로 규정함으로써 가신이라는 신의 정체성을 상실시켰다. 또한, 악행의 이유가 지나치게개인적이며 개연성과 공감을 확보하지 못하여 신화에서 드러난 측간신의 다양한상징적 해석이 동화에서는 이루어지지 못하였다. 마지막으로, 동화의 전개과정에서 인간과 직접 소통과 교류하던 문전신을 마지막에 책속으로 다시 가두는 닫힌결말 구조로 인해 신화가 일상으로 귀환할 수 있는 기회를 상실한 문제가 드러났다. 동화 창작에서 신화 모티프를 차용할 때에는 신화를 직접적으로 많이 드러내려는 부담을 과감하게 버려야 한다. 신화의 겉옷이 중요한 것이 아니라 신화 원형을 잘 파악하여 창작한 작품 속에 상징적으로 잘 녹여내는 것이 중요하다. 《녹디생이, 사라진 변기를 찾아라》 판타지 동화는 신화 인물 차용의 여러 문제를 드러내고는 있지만, 신화적 상징을 녹여 새롭게 창조한 인물을 통해 한국신화를 모티프로 한 동화 창작의 가능성을 열어주었다. 앞으로 신화를 모티프로 한동화 창작이 더욱 활발하게 이루어지기를 기대한다.
The main aim of this study is to examine the aspects and probl ems of acceptance about mythological characters in Nokdisaeng-i, Find Disappeared Toilet Seat. Characters in this fairy tales are largely embodied into two aspects. One is a character who re-created that was derived from characters in the myth, the other is a character who is newly created by borrowing a mythical symbol. The former characters are the god of gate, ‘Nokdisaeng-I’, the god of toilet shed, ‘Cleaner’, the river god, ‘Habaek’, and the dragon king of the sea, ‘Yongwang’. The latter characters are the protagonist ‘Go Seo-hyun(Haedal)’ and the phoenix ‘Jjan’. Haedal is created by inserting story motif to reveal the birth of a hero or hero’s ability, and Jjan is the guardian and assistant of Haedal. In the following chapter, this study analyzes the problems when mythological characters are accepted into fairy tales, focusing on the god of toilet shed. This fairy tale defines the god of toilet shed as a villain who confronts the gods who want to protect humans and thus it reveals the problems of losing his identity as the god of family. It also appears another problem that this fairy tales is not able to make various interpretation about the mythological characters because the reason why the wicked act of villain is from excessively personal causes therefore it loses its probability and readers’ sympathy. Finally, in this fairy tale, the closed ending structure that recaptured t he god of gate into the book reveals the problem that the myth lost the opportunity to return to daily life. When creating fairy tales with myths as motifs, the burden of revealing many signs of the myth should be boldly removed. It is not important to show externals of myths, it is vital to grasp the archetype of myths and dissolve it sufficiently into the creative work s. The fantasy fairy tale, Nokdisaeng-i, Find Disappeared Toilet Seat, lets us discover the possibilities and make us anticipate an active creation of fairy tales using myths as a motif.
