본 연구는 햐쿠타 나오키의 『딸들의 제국』에서 나오는 한 장수말벌 여전사의 짧지만치열한 사랑 이야기를 일본 제국주의와 평화주의의 관점에서 다루고 있다. 햐쿠타는 일본 제국주의 사상을 말벌사회에 대입시켜, 그가 신봉하는 일본 제국주의와 평화주의의이념을 독자들에게 전달하려는 의도를 가지고 있다. 그는 말벌집단을 통해 잔인하고 포악한 일상을 겪지만 그들이 속한 제국을 위해 자신의 목숨까지 바치는 이중적인 인간사회가 아직도 존재한다는 것을 보여주려 한다. 이것은 바로 일본이 추구하는 제국주의와선제공격을 통한 평화주의라는 이중성을 의미한다. 『딸들의 제국』의 주인공인 마리아는자신이 태어난 목적을 알지 못한 채, 자신은 제국을 건설하는 목표를 위해 태어났다고믿는다. 심지어 그녀는 자신이 “제국의 소유물”이라고 세뇌된 상태로 죽는 순간까지 “제국의 딸”로 그 일생을 마감한다. 햐쿠타가 이 작품에서 보여주는 평화주의는 일본이 전쟁을 할 수 있는 나라로 나아가는 비평화주의로 볼 수 있다. 그는 아베가 추구하는 선제공격을 통한 평화를 마리아가 속한 말벌제국을 통해 보여주고 있는 것이다.
This study deals with the short but fierce love story of an Asian giant wasp female warrior from Hyakuta Naoki’s Kaze no Naka no Maria from the perspective of Japanese imperialism and pacifism. Hyakuta intends to bring Japanese imperialist ideas into a wasp society, conveying to his readers the ideology of Japanese imperialism and pacifism that he adheres to. Through this wasp society, he tries to show that there is still a dual human society where people go through cruel and vicious routines but even give their lives for their own empire. This implies the duality of Japanese imperialism and pacifism through preemptive strike. Maria, the main character of Kaze no Naka no Maria, believes that she was born for the purpose of building an empire without knowing the purpose of her birth. She even ends her life as “the daughter of the empire” until the moment she dies in the brainwashed state as “the possession of the empire.” The pacifism shown by Hyakuta in this work can be seen as non-pacifism moving toward a nation where Japan can wage war. He shows the peace through the preemptive strike pursued by Abe through the wasp empire to which Maria belongs
