본고의 목표는 아리스토텔레스의 영혼에 관하여 2권 3장에 등장하 는 ‘도형-영혼의 유비’가 어떠한 이론철학적 함의를 정확히 어떤 범위 내에서 지니는지 밝히는 것이다. 이에 본고는 이 유비가 이론철학의 주요 과제인 ‘정 의’에 관한 아리스토텔레스의 사유를 압축적으로 담고 있는 것으로, 영혼에 대 한 정의 작업이 어떤 식으로 수행되어야 하는지 알림으로써 영혼에 관하여 전체의 구성적 특징을 예고한다고 주장한다. 그런 다음, 그렇다고 이 유비가 영 혼 단일성을 설명하는 역할까지 맡는 것은 아니라 주장하면서, 그 설명을 위한 다른 한 가지 대안으로 ‘점의 유비’를 제시해 본다.
The aim of this paper is to explicate the theoretical implications of the analogy of the figure and the soul in Aristotle’s De Anima 2.3. To achieve this, I argue that this analogy encapsulates Aristotle’s conception of a “definition” and also indicates how the task of defining the soul should be pursued, which enables us to foresee the order of discussion in De Anima and its overall structure. I also claim that this analogy does not go so far as to explain the soul’s internal unity; rather, I suggest the analogy of the point as an alternative source that can be developed to explain this unity.
