본 연구는 청소년미혼모가 자녀 양육의 책임자인 동시에 자아정체성 확립의 발달과업을 성취해야 하는 청소년으로서 경험하는 사회적 무시와 인정 형태를 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 청소년미혼모라는 특정 사례에 초점을 둔 질적 사례연구로서, 목적표집을 통해 수도권 지역에 거주하는 5명의 청소년미혼모를 연구참여자로 선정하였다. 자료 수집은 반구조화된 개별 심층면담을 통해 이루어졌고, Yin(2011)의 사례연구 자료 분석 절차에 따라 분석하였으며, 분석결과 ‘사회적 무시’와 ‘사회적 인정’이라는 2개의 주제에서 각각 4개와 3개의 하위 범주가 도출되었다. 주된 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 우선, 청소년미혼모들의 사회적 무시 경험은 어린 나이의 임신 사실에 대하여 주변으로부터 환영받지 못하는 거부 형태로 시작되었다. 이는 임신을 이유로 학업을 지속하기 어렵게 되는 것으로, 어리다는 이유로 양육자 역할에 대한 차별을 느끼는 것으로 이어졌으며, 이 과정에서 사회적 일탈자라는 부당한 시선을 느끼게 되었다. 반면, 청소년미혼모들의 사회적 인정 경험으로는 자녀로부터 새롭게 느끼는 사랑과 가족과 친구들의 지지, 주변으로부터 학습과 일을 할 수 있도록 도움을 받고 노력하는 경험이 있었다. 이들은 자신의 처지를 통하여 타인과 사회적 약자를 인식함으로써 자기 가치를 함께 스스로 인정하게 되는 경험으로 이어졌다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 본 연구는 사회적 상호인정의 측면에서 청소년미혼모의 자아정체성 확립을 위한 교육적 함의를 논의하였다.
This study is to examine at the form of social disregard and recognition experienced by youth single mother. This study was conducted as qualitative case studies, and five youth single mother living in metropolitan area were selected as the research participants. Data collection was conducted through a semi-structured individual in-depth interview, analyzed according to the case study analysis procedure in Yin(2011), and the analysis resulted in four and three sub-topics, respectively, from the 2 themes of ‘social disregard’ and ‘social recognition’. The main results are as follows. First, the social disregard experience of youth single mothers began in the form of a rejection of pregnancy at an early age that was not welcomed by people around them. This makes it difficult to continue studying due to pregnancy, connecting to discrimination against the role of caregiver for being young, and in the process, an unfair view as a social deviant. On the other hand, the social recognition experience of youth single mothers has been newly felt by their children, supported by their families and friends, and helped and tried to learn and work from their surroundings. Through their own circumstances, they were able to recognize others and the socially minorities, causing to their own recognition of their values. Based on these findings, this study discussed educational implications formation identity of youth single mothers in terms of social mutual recognition.
