본 연구의 목적은 동성애자 청소년이 경험하는 성적 정체감 형성과정과 그 경험이 어떤 의미를 갖고 있는지 이해하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 현상에 대한 맥락을 탐구하고 미래지향적인 결과를 도출하는 Clandinin(2016)의 내러티브 탐구 방법을 활용하였다. 연구참여자는 청소년기 성적 정체감 형성과정에서 경험한 다양한 이야기를 생생하게 전달해 줄 수 있는 2명의 남성 동성애자로 선정하였다. 자료수집은 3개월간 총 1,000분동안 진행되었으며, 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 현장텍스트를 거쳐 연구텍스트로 구성하였다. 연구결과, 성적 정체감 형성과정에서 남성동성애자의 경험의 의미는 총 5가지로 <둘로 나뉜 존재>, <다양한 환경의 영향을 받아 만들어진 반편>, <완전을 위한 반쪽을 찾아서>, <경직된 사회에서 상처받은 반편이들>, <새로운 반편이 문화>로 나타났다. 마지막으로 연구 결과에 대한 논의와 함께, 청소년 동성애자들의 권익 옹호를 위한 제언들을 제시하였다.
The purpose of this study is to understand process of sexual identity formation and its meaning as experienced by Korean gay adolescent males. For this purpose, the narrative inquiry method of Clandinin(2016) was used to explore the context of their experiences and to derive future-oriented results. The participants were two gay males who could deliver vividly various stories of their experiences during the process of forming a sexual identity. Data were collected through in-depth interviews over three months. As a result of the study, the meaning of gay males' experiences in the process of forming sexual identity were described as follows: <Belonging divided into two>, <Beyond created under various environments>, <Finding another Half for Completeness>, <Wounded Half-Beyond in a Hard Society>, and <New Half-Beyond Culture>. Lastly, the meaning of the results was discussed and suggestions for advocating Korean gay adolescents’ rights were suggested.
