The study explored what Korean learners perceive as the causes of their errors and how the perception of the causes of errors depends on their academic background and Korean language proficiency. Because research on the causes of errors in Chinese learners has differed according to researchers. This study intended to compare the perceptions of real learners with the previous research findings. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the results of perception of the overall cause of the error show that learners perceive the influence of Chinese as the cause of the error in the case of errors with differences in the part of speech. Errors used with passive and causative verbs have chosen more Korean language difficulties, which all groups are showing a similar tendency. However, we could see that the perception of the cause of the error is gradually changing as learners get used to the Korean language when it comes to the “e/ga” and “eul/eul” or “e” and “eso” , which do not differ in the part of speech. This study is meaningful in that it looked at the gap between study and practice by looking at the differences between the cause of research results and the causes of errors felt by the learners themselves.
