Unlike general purpose learners, immigrants who are coming to Korea for the purpose of marriage must live in a Korean family immediately after entering Korea and adapt to Korean language and culture in a short period of time, which makes it vital to develop Korean language textbooks for such a group of people. This study uses needs analysis method targeting 63 students who are planning to immigrate to Korea for marriage and 8 instructors in King Se Jong Institute. Based on the analysis, this study suggests effective ways to organize curriculums and lessons/units of Korean language textbooks for marriage immigrants. The analysis measured the satisfaction level of Sejong Korean, and its suitability as a Korean language textbook for marriage immigrants. The analysis also examined the topics and functions that the textbook should further be equipped with. The result showed that the marriage immigrants demand for more topics that are related to Korean family life as well as more vocabularies and grammars to be included in the textbook than Sejong Korean. This study aims to contribute to better understandings on the distinctive group of marriage immigrants before their entry to Korea, and further to development of diverse Korean language education materials and curricula.
