본 연구의 목적은 학교를 떠나 학교 밖이라는 새로운 환경에서 노동을 주요 생활영역으로 삼고 있는 학교 밖 청소년의 노동경험에 관한 의미와 본질을 밝히고자 하였다. 연구대상자는 서울, 인천, 경기 지역에서 학교를 중단한 지 1년 이상이면서 6개월 이상 노동경험이 있는 학교 밖 청소년 8명(남 4명, 여 4명)을 선정하였다. 연구자는 선정된 연구 참여자들과 심층 면담을 통해 자료 구성을 하였다. 연구 참여자들의 노동경험 텍스트는 Giorgi(2004)의 현상학적 연구방법에 따라 분석하였다. 자료분석 결과 연구 참여자들의 구술 데이터 중 노동과 관계된 내용을 분절하며 통합과 제외 과정을 거쳐 118개의 소주제로 분리했다. 118개의 소주제는 다시 재구성하여 29개의 드러난 주제로 결집했으며, 이를 다시 주제결집 과정을 거쳐 총 8개의 본질적 주제를 도출하였다. 결집된 8개의 본질적 주제는 ‘고통 속의 치열한 도전’, ‘인권유린과 노동력 착취’, ‘사회적 배제와 고립’, ‘대학의 벽에 막혀버린 삶’, ‘위축된 삶에 생기 불어넣기’, ‘변화된 돈의 철학’, ‘노동의 가치를 통한 삶의 성장’, ‘불안과 희망이 공존하는 미래’ 등이다. 8개의 본질적 주제들은 다시 구조적 통합과정 속에서 연구 참여자들의 경험을 압축한 “냉혹한 세상 속에서 또다시 버려질 운명을 극복하고 주체적으로 자신의 길을 만들어 감” 이라는 현상학적 대주제를 도출해 냈다. 본 연구는 학교 밖 청소년들의 노동경험을 집중적으로 연구했다는 데 시론적 의의가 있으며, 연구 참여자들의 노동경험 속에서 삶의 성장을 밝혔다는 데 의의가 있다.
The purpose of this study was to clarify the meaning and essence of the labor experience of out-of-school adolescents whose work is the main living area in the new environment of out-of-school. Objectives of this study were selected 8 adolescents(4 males, 4 females). The labor experience texts of the study participants were analyzed according to Giorgi's (2004) phenomenological analysis procedure. There were 29 emerging themes and 8 essential themes. The 8 essential themes converging through these technical methods are ‘The fierce challenges in pain’, ‘human rights abuses and exploitation of labor’, ‘Social exclusion and isolation’, ‘The life blocked by a university wall’, ‘The bring life to a shrunken life’, ‘The changed philosophy of money’, ‘The growth of life through the value of labor’, ‘The future in which anxiety and hope coexist’. These 8 essential themes, in turn, can lead to a phenomenological subject that “conquers the fate to be abandoned again in the cold world and subjectively builds its own way” that compresses the experiences of research participants in the process of structural integration. This study is meaningful in that it focuses on the labor experiences of young people outside of school, and it is significant that they reveal the growth of life in their labor experiences.
