The aim of this essay is to discuss the influence of global fascist movement to Asian modernity. As for the case of Korea, not many would know that the Korean national anthem was written and composed by those who collaborated with Japanese imperialism. Although no one knows for sure, it is allegedly said that Yun Chi-ho, a convert from a nationalist to a pro-Japanese politician, wrote the original poem of the song and Ahn Eak-Tai, the earliest classical Korean composer and conductor who was a conductor at a ceremony which celebrated the 10th anniversary of Manchukuo(滿州國), set an original lyric to music. Ahn also conducted a concert in Berlin for commemorating Hitler’s birthday in 1941. While one might say that these are mere coincidences, I argue otherwise. Rather, these are the manifestation that attests to the interconnection between colonial biopolitics, nation-state-formation, and one of the sources of global fascism that haunts the contemporary present. In this essay, I will investigate the various perspectives on fascism and their legacy.
한국의 국가가 친일 부역자이자, 일본제국주의의 협력자들에 의해서 작곡 작사 되었다는 사실을 아는 사람은 많지 않다. 알려진 바에 의하면, 애국가는 윤치호가 작사하고, 안익태가 작곡했다고 한다. 윤치호는 친일 인사이자, 해방 후에는 민족주 의자에서 친일본 정치가로 전향하여 활약한 인물이며, 한국 최초의 작곡가이자 지휘자인 안익태 역시 친일부역자로 알려져 있다. 그는 중국대륙으로 진출하기 위해 일본이 세운 국가인 만주국 창립 10주년 기념 음악회에서 현재 애국가와 선율이 비슷한 “만주환상곡”을 연주했고, 히틀러 생일을 기념하는 공연을 지휘하기도 했다. 이러한 이력을 두고서, 우연의 일치일 수도 있다고 주장할 수도 있겠지만 필자는 이 논문에서, 이들의 친일 혹은 친나치 행적이 잘못된 생각을 가졌던 일부 개인의 편향이 아니라, 식민주의의 생명정치, 민족국가 건설, 그리고 오늘날에도 여전히 우리 곁에 유령처럼 떠도는 파시즘과 밀접하게 연관되어 있음을 밝히고자 한다. 이 논문은 어떻게 근대 아시아의 형성이 지구적 파시즘 운동의 영향으로 이루어지게 되었는지 그 이론적 맥락을 따지는 것을 목표로 한다.
