군담소설은 초기 소설과 서사전개에서 상당한 차이를 보이며 여장이 활약하는 등 이채로운 장면이 많아 연구사의 초기부터 중국소설과의 관련 양상에 대한 논의가 이루어져 왔다 선행연구에서는 설인귀전 을 군담소설과 가장 근접한 작품으로 지목한 바 있다 그러나 이글에서 설인귀전 과 후속편의 내용을 면밀히 검토한 결과 선행연구에서 군담소설과의 공통점으로 지적한 특징들은 설인귀전 이 아니라 년대 이후 구활자본으로 출판된 이본만이 남아있는 후속편들에서만 나타난다는 사실을 알게 되었다본고는 다수 군담소설이 공유하고 있는 유형적 특징으로 도술을 매개로 한 사제관계 신이한 주보의 획득 초현실적인 도술전투의세 가지를 꼽았다 그리고 이와 유사한 특징을 지니고 있으며 군담소설이 유행하기 이전에 읽혔음이 확실하게 밝혀진 작품을 찾아보았다그 결과 신마소설 유형에 속하는 서주연의 에 주목하게 되었다서주연의 는 앞의 세 가지 특징과 함께 다수의 여장이 활약한다는점에서 조선조 군담소설과 유사한 점이 많았다 본고의 논의는 조선조 군담소설의 출현배경으로 삼국지연의 와 설인귀전 만을 언급한 기존의 논의와 달리 중국의 신마소설 장르에 주목하려는 문제의식에서 시도된 시론이라 할 수 있다 보다 본격적인 논의를 위해서는평요전 여선외사 등을 포함해 조선에 유입된 중국 신마소설 전반에 대한 폭넓은 고찰이 필요하다.
War novels show considerable differences from the early novels, and there are exotic characteristics such as the female general. Therefore many studies on the relation to Chinese novels have been made. In the previous studies, Suingujeon(薛仁貴傳) was identified as the closest work to Korean war novels. However, as a result of closely examining the contents of Sulinguijeon and the sequel, it was found that the characteristics pointed out in common with War novels in the previous studies were not the characteristics of Sulinguajeon but the characteristics of the sequel texts that only have been published since 1920s. This study identified three types of tangible characteristics shared by many War novels: 'the relationship between master and disciple through Taoism', 'the acquisition of magical items', and the battle of surrealistic Taoist magic'. And this study looked for works that had similar characteristics and were clearly identified to have been read before the popularization of war novels. As a result, I came to pay attention to Seojuyeonui(西周演意 ) which belongs to the type of Shirma(神魔) novels. Seojuyeonui has many similarities to war novels of Joseon Dynasty in that there are many female generals along with the three features mentioned above. For more full-scale discussion, it is necessary to extensively examine the overall Chinese Shirma novels introduced into Joseon, including Pyeongyojeon(平妖傳) and Yeoseonouisa(女仙外史). This study is a study that attempted to pay attention to the genre of Chinese Shima novels, escaping from the existing discussions that mentioned only Samgukjiyeonui(三國志演義) and Suinguajeon as the background of the Apearance of war novels in the Joseon Dynasty.
