본 연구의 목적은 문학교육에서 이루어지는 ‘근대’의 의미 및 가치학습에 대한 현황 및 문제점을 비판적으로 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 위해 현행 학교교육과정과 해당 교과서를 대상으로 하여 ‘근대’의 의미 및 가치인식을 지도하기 위한 수업 목표, 내용, 방법 등을 구분하여 분석하였다. 문학사에서 ‘근대’는 표현, 표기, 양식, 주제, 작가, 독자 등과 관련된 문학 내적 요소들의 변화가 급격하게 나타난 시기이다. 학계에서는 이러한 ‘근대문학’에 대한 구체적인 자료 발굴과 체계적인 해석을 통해 학사적 의의를 정립해 나가고 있는 반면, 문학관련 수업 장면에서 이루어지는 ‘근대’의 의미 및 내용 학습은 여전히 고정되고 피상적인 인식과 제한된 작품에 머물러 있는 실정이다. 문학교육의 본질은 통시적 이론과 지식을 바탕으로 하되, ‘근대’라는 공시적 측면에서 개별 작품을 통한 주제 및 시대정신의 발견, 근대문학이 지니는 특징과 시사점 등에 대한 주체적인 학습이 이루어져야 한다. 문학수업 장면에서 이루어지는 ‘근대문학’ 학습 실태에 대한 교육학적 성찰을 통해 ‘근대문학’의 의의를 새롭게 인식하는 계기를 마련하고, 작품 선정과 해석의 다양성을 통하여 수업 내용과 방법에 드러난 문제점들을 개선할 필요가 있다.
The objective of this article is critically examined the meaning of modern and value education on it, current state in which literature education is performed. For solving the problem researcher has analysed the learning goal, contents, method for teaching meaning of modern and value recognition in the relation to current curriculum and textbook which has involved the ideology and reality of literary education. Historically, in modern literature, era of modern is a period of radical change in many literary elements, such as expressions, orthography, formation, themes, authors, and readers. While the society of Korean literature study has established the meaning of modern through the discovery and interpretation on the work, the literature education in the schooling still remains fixed, superficial, limited contents and method on works. The essence of literature education in the schooling is systematic learning on a work’s theme, cognition on time which the work is written, character and implication on modern literature by active reading and understanding on individual work. In the situation for literature education it should be departed from simple memorizing on the theory and knowledge, alternatively, the active learning experience on the discoveries of work’s themes and spirit of the times must occur through critical consideration on work, at last, the characteristics and modernity of modern literature should be studied by the independent way. It is necessary to recognize the current problem on teaching & learning for modern literature by the reflection on literature education in the schooling and to improve the objectives, contents and methods of literature education. on it.
