오늘날 ‘세계화’가 나타남과 동시에 ‘지역화’가 나타나고 있으며 ‘공감’을 통해 지역주의와 보편주의가 공존하고 상호 발전할 수 있는 새로운 공감사회가 출현하고 있다. 이에 따라 지역주의와 보편주의 간의 이해와 공감을 증진시키기 위한 교류가 활발해지고 있으며, 서로 다른 문화 간 소통을 증진시키기 위한 장으로서 국가 경계를 초월한 초국가 문화도시네트워크가 형성되고 있다. 초국가적 동아시아의 사회, 정치, 경제적 변혁의 복잡성과 다차원성을 이해하기 위해서는 전통적인 국가사회의 이분법을 넘어 새로운 분석 도구가 필요하며, 이때 ‘초국가 도시네트워크’는 국가가 할 수 없는 역할을 하며, 효과적으로 초국가적 아시아의 국경 안이나 국경을 초월한 서로 다른 세력을 연결하는 중요한 메커니즘이 될 것이다. 또한 오늘날 이전보다 다양하고, 복잡하며, 가변적이게 된 세계화 시대의 문화를 이해하고, 소통하기 위해서는 초국가 문화도시네트워크의 역할이 중요하다. 특히 여전히 정치, 군사, 역사적 차원의 문제가 남아있는 동아시아에서 문화공동체는 평화공동체이자 공감과 소통의 창구가 되므로, 동아시아 내 초국가 문화도시네트워크가 활성화되어야 할 것이다. 이를 통해 동아시아시민으로서 소속감이 증진되고, 동아시아 지역정체성을 제고하며, 그리고 지역 문화발전에 이바지할 수 있게 될 것이다.
Today, with the advent of ‘globalization’, ‘localization’ is appearing. Based on ‘empathy’, regionalism and universalism coexist and new empathy society for mutual development is emerging. Accordingly exchanges have become active for improving the understanding and empathizing between regionalism and universalism, and ‘Transnational Cultural City Network’ transcends the national boundary as a venue for improving communication between different cultures is being formed. Understanding the complexity and multidimensionality of social, political, and economic revolution in the transnational East Asia requires new analyzing instruments beyond the traditional statesociety dichotomy. At this time, Transnational City Network plays a role that a state cannot do and will become an important mechanism that effectively connects different forces within or transcending the boundary of transnational Asia. To understand and communicate cultures in the era of globalization that is more varied, complex and variable today than before, Transnational Cultural City Network’s role is important. Especially in the East Asia where issues in political, military, and historical dimensions still remain, cultural community is peace community and a window for empathy and communication. So Transnational Cultural City Network within East Asia will have to be activated. This will enable to improve the sense of belonging as East Asian citizen, enhance the regional identity of East Asia, and contribute to the regional cultural development.
