회재 이언적(1491～1553)의 옥산 경영은 그가 1531~37년 동안 경주시 안강읍 옥산리에 獨樂堂과 鷄亭을 짓고 사산오대를 설정해 생활한 것을 가리킨다. 옥산 경영의 목적은 성리학을 공부하고 수양하기 위함이다. 이언적은 어릴 적 옥산의 정혜사에서 공부한 적이 있고 그 후 왕래하곤 하여 옥산의 경치와 자연조건에 대해 잘 알고 있었다. 옥산은 조용하고 인적이 드물어 은일하기에 적지이고, 특히 동쪽의 자계변은 화개산에 인접하여 자연과의 소통이 쉬운 곳이다. 이언적은 사헌부사간으로서 김안로의 재등용을 반대하다가 파직되어 낙향하게 되자 곧바로 고향인 양좌동에서 20여 리 떨어진 옥산에 별업을 조영했다. 독락당과 계정을 자연 친화적으로 면밀하게 설계함으로써 자연과의 소통의 일상화가 가능하도록 했다. 이러한 일상화는 오대의 설정으로 확대되고, 사산의 포괄로 확장되었다. 독락당, 계정, 자계, 오대, 사산 등은 각기 경영자인 이언적의 심성수양에 일정한 역할을 담당하는 요소들이다. 독락당 -> 계정 -> 자계 -> 오대 -> 사산으로 확장되는 공간은 이언적의 성리학적 수양을 위해 존재한다. 이러한 흔적은 이언적이 자연과의 소통을 통해 느낀 흥취와 자연물에 대한 命名 등에서 확인된다. 가장 일찍 주리론에 심화된 경지에 오른 이언적이 자연을 통해 천리를 체인하고 자연과의 일체된 삶을 영위하고자 옥산을 경영했던 것이다.
Hoejae(晦齋) Lee Eon-jeok(李彦迪)’s Management of Oksan means that he built Dongnakdang(獨樂堂) and Kyeojeong(溪亭) at Kyeongju-si Angang-eop Oksan-ri. The purpose is to study and train in Neo-Confucianism. He had studied at a Jeonghyeo-sa(定惠寺) since he was 14 years old, and he has been familiar with the scenery and nature of Oksan. Oksan was quiet and uninhabited, so it was suitable to live in seclusion. Especially Jagyeo(紫溪) near Hwagae-san on the east side, where it was easy to communicate with nature. Lee Eon-jeok built a villa in Oksan, about 20km away from his hometown Yangjwa-dong, after he was fired from his job to? oppose reappointment of Kim Anro. By designing Dongnakdang and Kyeojeong in a natural way, Lee Eon-jeok was always able to communicate with nature in his daily life. Nature is natural to communicate when the law of nature is being implemented, providing the source to provide is by nature. This shows up in poem at the time. In addition, he's around the mountains and their meaning is expanded during training. This is Sasanodae(四山五臺). Dongnakdang(獨樂堂), Kyeojeong(溪亭), Jakyeo(紫溪), Odae(五臺), Sasan(四山) and other factors play a certain role in the development of Lee Eon-jeok(李彦迪), who is the respective manager. This expanding space exists for the theoretical training of the heretical. These traces are found in the entertainment and knowledge that Lee Eon-jeok(李彦迪) felt through communication with nature.
