Methodological Approaches to the 1907 Pyongyang Revival (PR) are currently varied. Recently Man-Hyung Lee’s demythological approach to the PR was added to the varied approaches to the PR. Even though studies on the PR have reached a new phase through his approach, Lee’s demythological approach to PR has been previously unknown in the academic world. Moreover, scholars have not yet attempted its evaluation and missiological understanding. The purpose of this paper informs Lee’s demythological approach to the PR in the varied methodological context of the PR, evaluating its strengths and weaknesses, and missiologically understanding his approach. To achieve this, the second section first summarizes varied approaches to the PR and examines in detail his demythological interpretation of the PR. This section is necessary because his work has been previously unknown by the academic field. The third section evaluates strengths and weaknesses of his demythological interpretation of the PR. The fourth section attempts to missiologically understand his demythogical approach through David Congdon’s reunderstanidng of Bultmann’s demythologizing program.
1907년 평양부흥을 연구하는 접근법은 매우 다양하게 발전된 상태이다. 최근에 이만형의 평양부흥에 대한 비신화적 접근이 그러한 논의에 추가되었다. 비록 평양부흥 연구가 그의 연구를 통해서 새로운 국면에 진입했음에도 불구하고, 그의 비신화적 접근이 아직 학계에 잘 알려진 상태가 아니다. 더욱이, 아직 학자들이 그의 접근법에 대한 평가와 선교학적 이해를 시도하지 않은 상태이다. 이 논문의 목적은 이만형의 평양부흥에 대한 비신화적 접근을 평양부흥과 관련된 다양한 해석학적 방법론의 배경에서 소개하는 것이고, 그의 해석의 장점과 단점을 평가하고, 최종적으로 그의 방법을 선교학적으로 이해하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 제 2장에서는 우선적으로 평양부흥에 대한 다양한 해석들을 정리하고, 그의 평양부흥에 대한 비신화적 해석이 무엇인지 연구한다. 이 장은 그의 연구를 아직 학계에 잘 알려지지 않았기에 필수적이다. 제 3장에서는 그의 비신화적 해석에 대한 장점과 단점을 논의한다. 제 4장에서는 데이비드 콩돈의 불트만의 비신화적 해석에 대한 재이해에 대한 연구를 통하여 그의 비신화적 방법을 선교학적으로 이해를 시도한다.
