이 글은 통일 및 남북한 관련 분야의 전문학술지 『통일문제연구』 창간호인 1989년 제1권 제1호 이후 30년이 지난 시점인 2019년 제31권 1호에 이르기까지 이 학술지에서 게재했던 논문 총 690편을 대상으로 집필진이 관심을 가지고 분석했던 지역과 주제에 어떤 변화가 나타나는지 전체적인 동향을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그런 의미에서 이 글은 앞서 『통일문제연구』 2014년 제26권 2호에 나왔던 경제희․ 김재한의 논문 “탈냉전시대 통일문제 논의의 변천: 『통일문제연구』 25년을 중심으로” 및 2015년 제27권 2호에 등장하는 김석향의 논문 “『통일문제연구』 논문에 나타나는 집필진의 특성과 사회과학방법론의 적용 및 활용 동향 분석” 등 두 편에 이어 지난 30년 동안 한국 사회에서 통일 및 남북한 관련 분야 학술 담론의 동향을 분석하는 성격을 지닌다. 이 글에서는 『통일문제연구』 30년의 역사를 되짚어 보면서 누가, 언제, 어느 지역을 분석하는 논문을 발표했는지, 또 어떤 유형의 주제를 분석하는 동향이 어떻게 달라지는지 살펴보려 한다. 그리고 시간의 흐름에 따라 『통일문제연구』 집필진이 특정 지역과 주제를 분석하는 쏠림 현상이 나타나는 이유는 무엇인지, 그 사회적 배경을 해석하는 것을 목표로 삼는다. 한 걸음 더 나아가 1989년 이후 2019년에 이르는 30년 동안 『통일문제연구』 집필진으로 누가, 언제 활발하게 활동했는지, 그들의 특성이 논문의 주제를 선정하고 분석 대상 지역을 결정하는 과정에 어느 정도 영향을 미치는지, 그 동향을 서술하는 작업도 병행하였다. 결국 이 글은 지나간 30년 동안 『통일문제연구』 논문을 매개로 삼아 1989년 이후 2019년에 이르는 기간 동안 우리 사회 내부의 통일 및 남북한 관계 분야에서 언제(when), 누가(who), 무엇을(what), 어떻게(how), 왜(why) 분석하고 글로 발표해 왔는지 되짚어 보는 의미를 지닌다고 하겠다.
This article aims to review the academic authors and their topics on history of the Korean Journal of Unification Affairs, 1989-2019. For the last 30 years of history, the Korean Journal of Unification Affairs printed 71 issues from vol. 1 to vol. 31. Over the years, 778 authors wrote 690 articles on the Korean Journal of Unification Affairs. Who wrote which topics? Why the topics were chosen by those authors? Is there any academic trends over the 30 years of the Korean Journal of Unification Affairs history? These are the questions for this article to try to analyze. This articles, in that sense, shall be a serial follower of “Transition of Korean Unification Discourses during the Post-Cold War Era,” written by Kyung Jei-hee and Kim Chae-Han (2014) and “Who Wrote Academic Articles on the Korean Journal of Unification Affairs, 1989-2015: Review from a Perspective of Social Scientific Methodology,” written by Kim Seok Hyang (2015). This article will show who wrote those academic articles for the Korean Journal of Unification Affairs for the last 30 years, which topics they did analyze and why. It will also show if there would be any academic trends, from 1989 to 2019. By doing so, this article shall show the “when, where, who, what, how, and why” wrote those academic works for the Korean Journal of Unification Affairs, 1989-2019.
