이 글은 인천광역시 부평지역의 천주교와 감리교의 장소성을 파악한 것으로 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 종교경관의 입지가 중심지의 중심성이 변화함에 따라 이동하는 경향성을 갖고 있다. 조선 후기에 이 지역에 존재하던 천주교는 경인선이 부설되고 부평역 일대가 중심지로 성장하면서 1940년대 초에 부평2동에 최초의 성당이 세워졌다. 둘째, 부평지역 최초의 감리교 교회인 굴재교회는 1897년에 세워졌으며, 당시에는 인천과 김포를 잇는 도로변이었다. 굴재교회를 처음 입지처로 삼았던 계산중앙교회는 이곳을 떠나 발전을모색하여 인구가 증가하던 읍내로 이전하였고, 최근에는 교통이 더 편리한부평 나들목 인근으로 재이전하였다. 천주교와 달리 감리교는 인구와 교통의접근성이 높은 장소로 교회의 이전이 이루어지는 경향성이 나타난다. 셋째, 부평2동성당의 경우, ‘성당-보육원-병원-학교-수녀원’ 등이 모두 일정 장소에 모이는 장소 응집성을 통해 직・간접선교를 실천하는 선교거점을 마련하였다. 그 장소 또한 주변에서 잘 보이는 언덕을 선호한다는 점에서 부평감리교회의 입지와 일치한다. 넷째, 세태 경관을 두 종교경관에서 모두 찾을 수있다. 부평2동성당과 계산중앙교회의 경우, 개인 집에서 출발하여 규모가 작은 벽돌조 교회를 건축하다가 신자 수가 많아지면서 규모가 큰 교회를 건축하였다. 비록 대형교회라는 기준의 적용은 다르더라도, 두 종교 모두 점차규모가 큰 건축물을 건축하는 과정은 동일하다고 볼 수 있다.
This is a study to identify the placeness of Catholicism and Methodism located in the Bupyeong area of Incheon Metropolitan City. First, the religious landscape has a tendency to move as the centrality of the center changes. In the late Chosun Dynasty, Catholicism existed in Bupyeong region. In the aftermath of religious persecution, it gradually disappeared, but the first cathedral was built in Bupyeong 2-dong in the early 1940s as Gyeongin Line Railway was added and Bupyeong Station was developed as a center. Second, the Guljae Church of the Methodist Church was first settled in 1897 in Bupyeong, and it was the roadway connecting Incheon and Gimpo. The Gyaesan Jungang Church, which made Guljae Church the first place to go, left the area and moved to the increasingly populous city in search of development. Unlike Catholicism, Methodism has a tendency to relocate the church to places with high population and traffic accessibility. Third, in the case of Bupyeong 2 Dong Catholic Church, the missionary station was prepared through the cohesiveness of the place where all the ‘church - nursery school - hospital - school - convent’ were gathered at a certain place. The site is also consistent with the Bupyeong Methodist Church's location in that it prefers the hills that are well visible. Fourth, we can find the landcape of manners(世態景觀) in both religious scenes. In the case of the Bupyeong 2-dong Catholic Church and the Gyaesan Jungang Church, they started from their own homes and built a small brick church as the number of believers increased. Although the application of the criteria of the large church is different, the process of building an increasingly large building is the same for both religions.
